Department: Engineering Job Status: Full Time FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: VP of Engineering Amount of Travel Required: Up to 30% Positions Supervised: None Position Summary The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical engineering knowledge with consultative sales skills to help customers evaluate, select, and implement equipment and engineered solutions. This role is responsible for understanding customer needs, recommending and quoting appropriate products or engineered systems, and supporting customers throughout the sales lifecycle-from initial consultation to post-installation follow-up. Essential Functions: Partner with the sales team to conduct on-site visits to assess customer systems, machinery, and equipment requirements and translate into technical solutions Deliver technical presentations on proposed solutions and aid in equipment demonstrations Provide accurate technical details in request for information (RFI) responses Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and process diagrams Create conceptual designs and CAD models for system configurations, equipment selections, and custom solutions Estimate costs and generate quotes and proposal documents that clearly define project scope, technical requirements, critical performance parameters, and assumptions Identify cost-reduction opportunities during quoting and solution development Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and product teams to confirm feasibility and lead times Guide customers through industrial standards, certifications, and compliance (e.g., OSHA, ANSI, ISO, etc.) Serve as the primary technical contact throughout the sales cycle Support plant trials, prototype testing, and equipment commissioning (as needed) Provide technical clarifications and customer feedback during project kickoff meetings Maintain up-to-date product documentation, application notes, and technical reference materials Work with the Purchasing Department and/or directly with vendors to gather prices and lead times for purchased components Non-negotiable Workplace Requirements: Each employee shall actively engage in and fully support a work environment that stresses Safety, Responsiveness, Reliability, and Efficiency WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Experience may be substituted for education. Should have a background in business skills, technical communication, and estimating. Must have CAD experience and solid technical background with understanding of or hands-on experience in manufacturing and operation of industrial equipment. Computer Skills Knowledge of ERP systems. Proficient in Microsoft products including Word and Excel. Microsoft D365 experience is a plus. Proficient in CAD. Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor experience is a plus. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, and detailed technical proposals. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
