Location : Upland Job Type: Full Time Staff Job Number: 202400264 Area: Facilities Department: Maintenance Opening Date: 04/04/2025 Summary The Maintenance Tech performs maintenance and repair services for assigned University facilities. This includes installation, operation, maintenance, modification, service (preventative and emergency service) and repair of facility systems in alignment with organizational procedure, best practice, and safety standards. Duties and Responsibilities This position is primarily responsible to: Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University's Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University. Perform skilled maintenance following established procedures and guidelines in the inspection and repair of a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Perform semi-skilled preventive and routine maintenance and alteration of campus buildings and facilities, as well as prepares work sites for repair / maintenance work and returns work sites to a usable condition at the completion of inspections. Respond to both preventative and corrective work order requests to ensure consistent facility and utility system operations. Comply with the basics of life safety, team safe practices, and compliance with OSHA, EPA, IDEM and similar regulations while carrying out work responsibility. Maintain awareness and knowledge of major building systems infrastructure in facility/facilities assigned. Other duties as assigned. Typical QualificationsEducation and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. 2 years' experience related to the duties and responsibilities specified, preferred. Must have a valid driver's license. Qualifications and experience in one or more of the following areas, preferred: Computer control systems for HVAC; Refrigeration systems; Maintenance and operation of boilers and associated equipment, air conditioning machinery, and auxiliary machinery; Maintenance and operation of institutional / restaurant kitchen equipment; Electrical power distribution, emergency electrical systems, and electrical control systems; Plumbing; Carpentry, including painting, drywall repair, etc. Relevant certification in building systems (HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical/plumbing, electrical) or safety (industrial, OSHA, NFPA), preferred. Skills and Competencies Clear, direct, effective. and compassionate written and verbal communication style. Excellent customer service skills. Experience with and general knowledge of basic computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite; willingness to learn new software systems. Willingness to be trained for specific skilled trade work. Ability to work collaboratively in a partnership or team setting. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, and specifications. Knowledge of and willingness to follow safe work practices for the maintenance trades, including regulatory requirements. General knowledge of technological proficiency and ability to utilize it in the field. Supplemental InformationPhysical Demands Moderate physical activity; requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds, and occasionally 50 or more pounds or standing and/or walking for more than five (5) hours per day. Work Environment Some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Must be able to work on call on a periodic basis to respond to facility emergencies. Environmental Conditions May involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
