Application Database Developer Location: Scottsdale, AZ (On-Site) Compensation: $80,000 - $120,000 Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. About Savas Software Savas Software builds innovative Electronic Health Record (EHR) technology designed to support transdisciplinary pain management and coordinated patient care. Our platform powers mission-critical clinical and operational workflows, and database performance, reliability, and scalability are central to our success. Role Overview We are seeking an Application Database Developer with deep Microsoft SQL Server expertise to optimize, maintain, and evolve the databases behind our EHR platform. This role is heavily focused on database performance, stability, and maintainability, as well as partnering closely with application developers to design, review, and implement database changes that support new features and long-term scalability. You will be a key technical authority ensuring our databases are fast, reliable, secure, and ready to scale as our customer base grows. Key Responsibilities Database Optimization & Maintenance (Primary Focus) • Own database performance across mission-critical EHR systems, including query tuning, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and schema optimization • Monitor and proactively resolve performance bottlenecks, blocking, deadlocks, and resource contention • Maintain database health through capacity planning, maintenance routines, and performance monitoring • Support high-availability, backup, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure system reliability Developer Collaboration & Change Implementation • Partner closely with software developers to review database designs, stored procedures, and schema changes • Translate application requirements into efficient, scalable database solutions • Help developers improve SQL quality, performance, and maintainability • Support and guide safe rollout of database changes through development, UAT, and production environments • Develop and implement unit testing for SQL (tSQt, etc) to validate stored procedures, queries, and functions Standards & Best Practices • Define and enforce SQL coding standards and performance best practices • Conduct database code reviews and mentor developers on optimization techniques • Support database versioning and controlled deployment processes • Collaborate with reporting and analytics teams to ensure performant data access patterns Continuous Improvement • Identify opportunities to improve existing database designs and legacy patterns • Stay current on SQL Server and Azure SQL performance features and tuning capabilities • Recommend improvements that support scale, reliability, and developer efficiency Required Qualifications • 4+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server • Strong expertise in query optimization, indexing, schema design, and performance tuning • Experience supporting production, performance-sensitive applications • Solid understanding of data security, access controls, and HIPAA-aligned practices • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with software engineers and cross-functional teams • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills Preferred Experience • Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance • Tools such as Query Store, Azure Monitor, or automated tuning features • Database migration/versioning tools (e.g., Flyway, SSDT) • Healthcare or regulated-industry systems (EHR experience a plus) Why Join Us You'll join a mission-driven, highly collaborative team where database excellence directly impacts patient care, clinical workflows, and business outcomes.
