Responsibilities In this role of Adult Education Intern, you will be responsible for the following: assisting the program with administrative duties including calling and communicating with students to retrieve information that might be of a sensitive nature, helping students with digital technology, which includes orientating them to Zoom, Google Suite, and how to use laptops, and act as a “Study Hall” tutor where students can get help with their classwork in open office hours. This is an unpaid internship, but we are happy to help you get college/university credit if your school requires you to work in an internship or complete volunteer hours. Qualifications We are looking for two currently enrolled undergraduates in one of the following majors: Social Work, Sociology, Anthropology, Human Services, Psychology, Asian Studies, Linguistics, or Education Previous experience working with immigrants, being an immigrant, or coming from an immigrant family are pluses Comfortable with using and teaching, Microsoft software, Google Suite, and Zoom strongly preferred Up to 3-4 soft skills. For example: Highly preferred experience working with people of different backgrounds and a high level of cultural competency Patience and compassion for immigrants are essential Tutoring, coaching, mentoring, or teaching experience is preferred Language: Fluency in English is required Being fluent or conversational in Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, French, or Haitian Creole are preferred but not required. Working Conditions We are looking for someone who can commit to 5-7 hours per week. Four of those hours will be in-person at the Boston or Quincy office on Fridays. The three other hours can be worked from home. Work is performed primarily in a standard work environment, including the operation of computer equipment, and physical demands associated with a traditional work setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions, as necessary The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this job.
