ACIBuilds.com Summary/Objective: The Structural Steel VDC Manager leads, develops, and molds a team of Steel detailers to be cost effective planners and decision makers. They should be an energetic, self-motivated individual who possess the skills required to successfully execute project tasks, have an ability to use independent judgment for team problem-solving, and have a strong work ethic as a dynamic team leader. This person should also have a passion for VDC innovations and emerging technologies in the AEC industry and will perform lead VDC functions for the team for all projects, as well as, coordinate efforts with sales, estimating, project management, design, manufacturing, and installation teams. Essential Functions: • Act as coach and talent developer to provide over-the-shoulder training to help facilitate development of Steel Detailing VDC staff, as well as, instruct team members on various aspects of model development, construction documentation and production techniques • Prepare BIM training sessions for management and field staff • Understand and interpret project schedules to facilitate the BIM process and work flows to match project needs with team member's skills • Strategically develop and manage the BIM team as work volume dictates • Assist with securing new Detailers and Outsourcers • Monitor outsourcing steel detailers on specific job assignments • Maintain an accurate and current database of VDC implementation costs for each project • Help create effective detailing budgets and assists on pre and post-bid submissions • Maintain, Evaluate and Report VDC Metrics • Monitor actual cost/projected cost vs. budget on Regional projects • Lead weekly staff meetings to confirm that the team is meeting deadlines, optimizing capacity, and maintaining quality • Attend and/or manage coordination meetings including other meetings, job visits, etc. whenever necessary • Oversee VDC documentation standards • Coordinate VDC standards with client's standards and communicates them to the project team, as well as, incorporate and manage standards driven changes within the design • Help to drive the decision-making process by evaluating risk versus reward with the project team • Provide End-of-Project metric results and case studies • Discuss VDC "lessons learned" and Verify/Confirm Concurrence • Participate in project close-out reporting/meetings to share lessons learned with the project team and all detailers in your group • Support VDC implementation opportunities in the marketing and Pre-construction phases of a Project • Present BIM plan and work with the client's BIM team • Participate in the Development and implementation of Corporate VDC Goals • Work with VDC Team to schedule deliveries for Trimble layout drawings, shop drawings, BOMs, fabrication drawings, and as-builts that meet the direct needs of the project • Keep up with software developments, database improvements, BIM/VDC advancements, and all training initiatives • Performs other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibility: YesRequired: • 10+ years of BIM Drafting/Design in construction and relevant education, with a focus in Structural Steel Design. • 10+ years of experience with construction manufacturing and/or installation • 10+ years of experience with detailing and coordination software such as TEKLA, Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, Navisworks, and BlueBeam • 3+ years of proven experience building, leading, coaching, and developing a team • Understanding of contractual delivery methods for design and construction projects • Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills • Must be able to pass post-offer pre-employment drug screen, and may be required to satisfactorily complete additional background checks as required (i.e. DMV, criminal history) • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures • Must be available to work assigned schedules Work Environment: • Works in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment • Position may require visits to construction site Physical Demands: • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopier, filing cabinets and fax machines Travel: • May require infrequent travel (typically not overnight) Preferred: • Prior military experience • HS diploma or GED equivalent STRUCTURAL STEEL DESIGN MANAGER VDC
