Position Description: Lead the Bank's Syndications & Trading platform to strengthen balance sheet management and support Association origination. The senior executive responsible for sell-side originate-to-distribute execution for large, complex commercial and agricultural credit facilities, typically ranging from $50MM to $500MM. This role leads the structuring, marketing, distribution, and execution of syndicated loans and participations while partnering in with buy-side Capital Markets to align transactions with balance sheet strategy, concentration limits. This role is responsible for two primary objectives: (1) optimizing balance sheet management through disciplined hold-level targeting and syndication execution, and (2) developing deep, repeat relationships with commercial banks and Farm Credit associations and ensuring consistent execution certainty, disciplined credit outcomes. Day-to Day-Duties and Responsibilities:Syndications Leadership, Strategy, and Governance Own the commercial/ag syndications strategy for large-cap and upper-middle-market transactions, including target sectors, structures, investor mix, and execution approach. Drive fee income, distribution volume, and capital efficiency while supporting overall balance sheet optimization. Establish and manage performance metrics for pipeline health, distribution certainty, execution timelines, and investor engagement. Set team strategy, policies, workflow, and performance standards; define KPIs/scorecards and escalation paths for hold level, structure, and execution decisions. Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure regulatory alignment, documentation standards, and timely approvals. Act as senior advisor to executive leadership on market conditions, investor appetite, and syndication feasibility for large commitments. Origination Engagement & Structure Advisory Support Associations and relationship teams with prospect calls, early structuring guidance, market feedback on terms/pricing, and syndication strategy (who/why/how/when). Establish initial hold ranges and retained-exposure recommendations with Relationship Portfolio Management. JLA Underwriting & Credit Analysis (Leadership & Oversight) Direct and oversee initial underwriting and credit-content development for JLA loan opportunities performed by the Portfolio Manager and structuring resources; ensure accuracy, consistency, marketability, and alignment to targeted hold levels and committee direction. Establish standards and quality controls for underwriting packages, credit memos, covenant/model design, transaction schedules, and diligence content; review and approve key assumptions and final materials prior to committee submission and investor-facing use. Drive execution quality through templates, process discipline, and readiness expectations (data rooms/diligence materials); resolve escalations across Credit, Legal, and internal partners when needed. Marketability edits to credit materials must not alter underlying credit conclusions, risk ratings, or covenant terms without concurrent Credit approval. Syndication Launch, Marketing, Allocation & Close (Leadership & Oversight) Provide strategic direction and oversight for launch and marketing activities executed by the Loan Sales Officers, including CIM/lender deck readiness, deal-site launch, invitations, lender-meeting cadence, and Q&A governance to ensure a professional and consistent investor experience. Approve distribution strategy, pricing posture, and allocation framework developed by the Loan Sales Officers, balancing execution certainty, relationship objectives, and aftermarket support; ensure final allocations remain consistent with credit approvals and retained-exposure strategy. Oversee closing coordination performed day-to-day by Loan Sales Officers and partners across operations/agency, including document review workflow, participant confirmations (PCs), signature pages, and closing logistics; remove obstacles and ensure timelines are met. Ensure all syndicated transactions comply with internal credit policy, regulatory expectations, and investor standards. Participate in credit approval and structuring discussions as syndications executive sponsor. Post-Close Monitoring, Servicing Actions & Trading (Leadership & Oversight) Ensure effective post-close handoff and accountability by directing transition of exposure ownership to Relationship Portfolio Management and overseeing Portfolio Manager execution of monitoring, watchlist/risk-rating cadence, and support for amendments/waivers/consents. Oversee investor coverage infrastructure maintained by the Loan Sales Officers (participant database/CRM content, preferences, appetite, interaction history) and require reporting on investor engagement and sold-volume outcomes. Set trading and portfolio-optimization strategy and oversee Loan Sales Officer execution of secondary buy/sell activity, including trading desk relationships, market price/rate monitoring, and trade execution via approved platforms. Secondary Loan & Bond Trading (Oversight & Direct Execution) Provide senior oversight and as required, direct execution of secondary loan and bond trades with major dealer and Wall Street counterparties to optimize portfolio positioning, liquidity, and risk-adjusted returns. Establish approved dealer coverage, trading limits, and execution standards; use Bloomberg and other market tools to source runs/pricing, analyze relative value, and document trade rationale consistent with policy and compliance requirements. Maintain advanced market knowledge through ongoing research and market intelligence (rates, spreads, liquidity, sector fundamentals) and translate insights into trade ideas, risk monitoring, and communication to internal stakeholders. RBIC Fund Portfolio Monitoring (Leadership & Accountability) Oversee monitoring of the Bank's RBIC fund holdings and underlying portfolio companies, including review of quarterly statements/SOI/IRR materials, valuation updates, and significant GP communications. Coordinate inputs and deliver timely updates to Finance/Accounting and leadership teams (e.g., impairment/valuation watch items, key risks, and notable portfolio developments), and represent the Bank in investor advisory discussions as appropriate. Management & Team Development Direct management responsibility for team members including Loan Sales Officers, JLA Portfolio Manager, and Loan Structuring Advisors. Hiring and performance management authority consistent with Bank HR policy. Recruit, coach, and develop talent; allocate resources across pipelines and ensure consistent client service. Serve as a Loan Committee Chairman, evaluating and voting on recommended actions via in-person and electronic meetings as required. Mentor Directors/VPs in structuring, investor dialogue, and execution discipline. Drive continuous improvement across processes, reporting, and technology to support scale and complexity. This position requires: Required 15+ years of experience in commercial lending and/or loan syndications with a sell-side distribution focus. Demonstrated success leading $50MM-$500MM syndicated transactions as arranger or lead distributor. Deep expertise in commercial and agriculture-related credit structures, collateral, covenants, and risk drivers. Proven ability to build investor relationships and deliver complex transactions in partnership with Credit, Legal, Treasury, Accounting, and Operations. Familiarity with Farm Credit System structure, lending mandates, and Association relationships preferred. Preferred Established network across banks and Farm Credit associations with repeat execution history. Experience in agribusiness, ag processing, or rural infrastructure financing. MBA, CFA, or equivalent advanced training.
