Location: Albany, NY Category: System Administration Posted On: Thu Feb 26 2026 Job Description:Position Overview:The Re-entry Manager is a full-time, grant-funded position based in Albany, NY, with the primary work location at SUNY System Administration in Albany. This role will further SUNY's goal of achieving fair and inclusive access to quality higher education for currently and formerly incarcerated students. This role provides leadership, supervision, and professional development to OHEP's team of Re-entry Navigators while supporting the strategic growth and effectiveness of the Academic Re-entry Navigation Program.In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the Re-entry Manager maintains a direct case management component, providing transition planning and academic re-entry support services to justice-involved youth and students preparing for release. This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring coordinated, trauma-informed, and student-centered services that promote persistence, successful transition, and degree completionResponsibilities:Staff Supervision & Operations Directly supervise reentry navigators; provide coaching and mentorship. Set performance expectations, review case management practices, and ensure quality student support. Support staff professional development, including training in trauma-informed care, case management, reentry support, and policy updates. Ensure equitable caseload distribution and accountability for deliverables. Review and provide oversight of case notes to ensure accuracy, quality, consistency, and adherence to trauma-informed and program standards. Oversee the maintenance and integrity of the Academic Reentry Program database, ensuring accurate and timely entry of student records, referrals, transfers, and outcomes. Monitor data accuracy and completeness through regular audits and supervision of documentation and reporting practices. Prepare reports for institutional leadership and external stakeholders. Identify service gaps and propose enhancements to reentry navigation and student support systems. Strategic Partnership Development and Collaboration Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and external partners including the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), Administration for Children's Services (ACS), and the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS). Collaborate with peer offices across SUNY System Administration?such as the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Office of Community Colleges and Partnerships, and the University Center for Academic and Workforce Development (UCAWD)?to support coordinated transition and re-entry efforts. Represent OHEP in interagency meetings, planning discussions, and collaborative initiatives related to justice-involved youth and higher education access. Transition Planning and Academic Re-entry Case Management Manage student referrals and academic transfers between juvenile facilities, DOCCS facilities, and SUNY campuses, including students preparing for release into the community. Conduct academic transition and reentry assessments with justice-impacted individuals in New York State correctional facilities and in the community to support postsecondary planning, enrollment, and placement. Job Requirements:Required Education/Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience 3+ years of work experience in higher education in prison or in a related field Preferred Education/ Qualifications: Master's degree At least 3 years of supervisory experience, or comparable demonstrated experience supervising staff or teams. Strong knowledge of higher education and re-entry Experience working within juvenile justice setting Familiarity with case management or re-entry programming Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations Knowledge of SUNY policies, higher education systems, or statewide education initiatives. Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders across systems, including educational institutions, government agencies, and community-based organizations. Ability to travel regularly to SUNY campuses and juvenile or correctional facilities.
