Separate triage area is available in the waiting room. Triage is performed once patients are brought back to the Emergency Room. Holds are intermixed within the Emergency Room. Emergency Room RNs manage holds. One psych-safe room is available. Security is in-house 24/7. Average of 35 patients treated in the Emergency Room per day. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4, varying with acuity. Team nursing approach is utilized. On night shift, two RNs and one tech are present. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, TNCC, and PALS. Commonly treated diagnoses include a wide range of cases. Stabilization and transfer of critical patients are performed as necessary. Pediatric patients constitute around 25% of those seen. Must have a solid background in travel nursing. Familiarity with common drips, including cardiac drips, dopamine, levophed, nitroglycerine, propofol, and insulin is necessary. Physician coverage is available 24/7. Mid-level support is available from 9am-9pm. No charge nurse is present; a house coordinator is on-site Monday through Friday during day shifts. Overnight, the most experienced RN acts as the resource nurse, managing a full patient assignment. Technician support is available during the night shift. Technicians respond to call lights, take vital signs, assist with activities of daily living, conduct blood sticks, and EKGs. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 to manage vents and ABGs. RNs are responsible for their EKGs and troubleshooting RT equipment. RNs draw primary labs, with phlebotomy available for backup. Self-scheduling for shifts occurs, with weekend shifts assigned in advance. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Holiday coverage rotates with core staff. Floating to other areas may be required to provide additional support. No specific scrub color or dress code is enforced, but attire should be clean and professional. Unit-specific orientation lasts for 2-3 days. Cancellation policy allows for 2 shifts per 13-week contract. Charting system used is EPIC.
