The purpose of this position is to enforce environmental, animal and housing codes for the City of Grand Prairie. This is accomplished by patrolling the City for animal violations, conducting inspections of properties; issuing citations and violations notices; supervising personnel; and completing administrative duties. Other duties include providing customer service to the public and other departments. Essential Job Functions Conducts inspections by patrolling the City for animal violations; investigating neglect or other complaints; responding to citizen complaints; scheduling regular inspections; touring the building or property; noting violations of code; researching to locate owners, if necessary; notifying owners of results of inspections; and re-inspecting noncompliant locations. Issues citations and violations by compiling inspection reports; preparing cases for the BAAB Board or court; executing warrants; and ensuring clean up is completed or animals are cared for. Completes administrative duties by answering calls; providing information to the public and other departments as requested; compiling various reports; completing documents and forms; and maintaining records. Provides customer service to the public by developing and implementing community and school education programs; assisting other departments with community functions; and developing and implementing neighborhood incentives. Supervises personnel by observing and monitoring work tasks; functioning as a lead worker; and providing guidance, instruction and feedback. Performs departmental specific functions by attending animals in the animal shelter; picking up strays and dead animals; providing adoption services; conducting euthanasia services; dispatching service calls; ensuring properties are cleaned up; and ensuring repairs are made to buildings or facilities. Minimum Qualifications Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training. Over two years of related experience. Valid Texas Class C Driver's License, Code Enforcement Officer License, Basic Animal Control Officer Certification, Certified Euthanasia Technician, Lead Visual Assessment Certification, Housing Quality Standards Certification Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study. Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college.
