Position Type: Student Support Services/Speech and Language Pathologist Date Posted: 2/2/2026 Location: Fairview School District 72 Date Available: 08/22/2026 Closing Date: 02/27/2026 SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST JOB DESCRIPTIONTitle: Speech and Language Pathologist Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, to foster communication skills, to identify students with communication disabilities; to plan and implement appropriate treatment to minimize adverse impact on student success; to recommend treatment plans. Reports To: School Principal Qualifications: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Illinois Licensure (PEL) and ASHA certification as a Speech and Language Pathologist or as required for position. Required Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities: Ability to understand and adhere to, interpret, and apply District policies and procedures. Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of employee, student, and other sensitive District information. Ability to work with students and adults in a positive manner. Physically and emotionally able to perform job responsibilities. Ability to attend work regularly and punctually and complete duties in a timely manner. Of good moral character and possessing temperate, ethical, and industrious habits. Knowledge of speech, language, voice, fluency, and social communication development across childhood and adolescence. Understanding of communication disorders and their impact on academic achievement, social-emotional development, and access to curriculum Knowledge of assessment tools and procedures for evaluating speech-language disorders in school-aged populations Familiarity with IEP development, IDEA, and special education eligibility criteria Understanding of evidence-based intervention practices for speech-language services in educational settings Knowledge of assistive technology and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems Familiarity with MTSS/RTI frameworks and tiered intervention models Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in administering and interpreting formal and informal speech-language assessments Ability to develop measurable IEP goals aligned with student needs and educational standards Skill in delivering individualized and small-group therapy using evidence-based methods Effective written communication skills for reports, IEPs, progress notes, and documentation Strong verbal communication skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams Organizational and time-management skills to manage caseload and compliance timelines Essential Performance Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct speech-language screenings and comprehensive evaluations to determine the presence of communication disorders and educational impact Interpret assessment results and participate in eligibility determination in accordance with IDEA, state regulations, and district procedures Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with speech and language needs Provide direct speech-language therapy services through individual, small-group, and classroom-based service delivery models Design therapy that supports access to the general education curriculum and functional communication across school environments Develop measurable goals and objectives aligned with student needs and educational standards Monitor student progress, collect and analyze data, and adjust interventions accordingly Prepare written evaluation reports, IEP documentation, progress reports, and service logs in a timely and compliant manner Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and administrators to support student success Participate in IEP meetings, problem-solving meetings, and multidisciplinary team discussions Support the implementation and use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and assistive technology Provide training and guidance to staff and families on communication strategies and AAC use Participate in MTSS/RTI processes, including intervention planning and progress monitoring Maintain accurate service schedules and manage caseload in accordance with district and state guidelines Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education regulations and timelines Complete Medicaid billing and related documentation, as required Maintain professional competence through ongoing professional development Perform other related duties as assigned to support student communication and educational access Physical Demands and Work Environment: The physical demands and work environment described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Salary established based upon years of experience and level of education as defined in the salary schedule of ARTICLE XVII Section 17.1 of the AGREEMENT between the Board of Education School District #72 and the Fairview Teachers' Association Local 1274, IFT/AFT, AFL-CIO. FLSA Status: Exempt. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of ARTICLE III, Teacher Evaluation, Sections 3.1-3.15 of the AGREEMENT between the Board of Education School District #72 and the Fairview Teachers' Association Local 1274, IFT/AFT, AFL-CIO.
