Cy-Fair Fire Department Harris County ESD #9 Vacancy Announcement Full-Time Emergency Vehicle Technician I Announcement Date: 02/25/2026 Application Deadline: 03/25/2026 The Cy-Fair Fire Department is seeking a qualified Emergency Vehicle Technician I (EVT) to perform inspections, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on emergency response vehicles and related in accordance with NFPA 1071 and NFPA 1911 standards. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and operational readiness of department apparatus. The Emergency Vehicle Technician I position is classified as an hourly, non-exempt position. Pay Rate: Emergency Vehicle Technician: $30.75 per hour + $0.20 per year for longevity Annual Education Pay: Associate's Degree: $ 0.58 Bachelor's Degree: $ 0.87 Master's/Doctorate Degree: $1.15 Schedule: 40-hour work week, Monday-Friday, with potential to remain on duty and/or in a on call rotation beyond scheduled hours, nights, and weekends may be expected. Annual Leave: 80 Hours Vacation/80 Hours Sick / 80 Hours Holiday Accrual increases every 2 or 3 years, depending on length of service Retirement: TCDRS 7% employee contribution, 14% employer contribution 457B Voluntary retirement account, Department contribution matches up to 3% Insurance:Medical: Currently through Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO HSA $5,000: The Department covers 100% of the employee premium and 90% of the family. The department makes a quarterly contribution towards the HSA account. Dental and Vision: Currently through Guardian The Department covers 90% of the employee premium and 70% for family. Short- and Long-Term Disability: Currently through Guardian The Department pays 100% of the premium. Life Insurance - $50,000 policy The Department pays 100% of the premium. Supplemental Insurance: The Department partners with Aflac for supplemental insurance. This is available for purchase by the employee. Additional Life insurance is available for purchase by the employee. Essential Job Functions- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with Department Standard Operating Guidelines, including Bulletins, Memos, Safety guidelines, Personnel Handbook and Chief's Orders. Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Perform general and preventative maintenance and body repair to department vehicles Repair and replace defective or worn parts (e.g., starters, alternators, brakes, batteries, belts, hoses, tires) Perform minor electrical work and low-voltage diagnostics Conduct oil changes, filter replacements, and engine tune-ups Perform diagnostic testing and performance verification on chassis systems, including engines, transmissions, driveline, brake, steering, suspension, fuel, exhaust, and climate control systems Repair cab and body components, compartments, mounting racks, steps, and ladders Assist with specialty systems such as pump and tank systems, aerial systems, or specialized foam and auxiliary systems as assigned Perform road tests to ensure proper vehicle operation Maintain shop cleanliness and perform housekeeping duties Clean, inspect and maintain equipment and shop tools Document repair and maintenance activities using computer-based systems Transport vehicles and equipment as needed Service and repair other department equipment as assigned such as small engines, saws, and fans. Service and repair facility standby generators Perform other related duties as assigned Required Qualifications: One year of automotive and repair experience Ability to perform inspections and maintenance duties in accordance with NFPA 1911 Demonstrate knowledge, training, and experience related to emergency vehicle maintenance Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of emergency vehicle repair and maintenance Knowledge of electronic and computerized automotive diagnostic equipment Knowledge of occupational safety and health policies related to vehicle repair Knowledge of parts inventory and stock management Skill in safely repairing and testing vehicles and equipment Skill in utilizing computer databases to maintain records and inventory Ability to follow oral and written instructions Proficiency in the use of power tools Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks Strong customer service and communication skills Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships General Knowledge Requirements per NFPA 1071: Fire department organization and maintenance facility operations Role of the EVT in the organization Mission of the fire service Department standard operating procedures (SOP) and regulations as they apply to the EVT Key elements of NFPA 1500, NFPA 1901, and NFPA 1911, as they apply to the EVT Federal motor carrier safety regulations Applicable federal, state and local regulations Interpretation and use of manufacturer's specifications Inspection checklists, maintenance schedules, and department SOPs Proper selection and use of tools and maintenance equipment Workplace safety practices and hazardous material handling Cleaning procedures and housekeeping standards General Skill Requirements per NFPA 1071: Ability to use tools safely and effectively Ability to operate emergency response vehicles in compliance with applicable laws Ability to locate and interpret departmental documents and reference materials Education/Degrees: High School Diploma or GED Requires 18 months of vocational education/training in automotive maintenance or repair (e.g. NIASE) Certifications/Licenses: Valid Texas driver's license with acceptable driving record Ability to obtain at a minimum, a State of Texas Class B exempt driver's license within one year of employment Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association or ability to obtain within 30 days Preferred: ASE certifications, EVT certifications, or additional automotive maintenance experience Must complete 20 hours of initial or continuing education annually to maintain EVT qualifications Cy-Fair FD has the right to consider any combination of education and experience in determining an individual's qualification for this position.
