PURPOSE Organize, direct, coordinate and oversee various aquatics programs, facility, staff and patrons, promoting and implementing state-of-the-art safety policies and procedures. Works independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks. Direct and participate in the preparation, maintenance, processing, analysis and auditing of data, records and reports. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work. Bachelor's degree is preferred. Must have three years of increasingly responsible experience, lifeguarding, instructing swimming, especially relating to pre-school and school-age students and supervisory experience in an aquatic environment. Prefer experience with competitive swimming and meet operations. Must possess knowledge of methods, terminology, principles, practices, procedures, materials, requirements, processes and equipment applicable to assigned field. Must possess strong analytical, computer, organizational, and oral and written communication skills. Must have experience working with and involving frequent public contact with a diverse population. Must be a licensed lifeguard through Ellis & Associates (International Lifeguard Training Program) and EAVS Operator; be certified in Water Safety Instruction through the American Red Cross; must obtain a lifeguard instructor license through Ellis & Associates (International Lifeguard Training Program) within six (6) months of hire; must obtain an EAVS instructor license within six (6) months of hire; must obtain National Instructor's Certification through the Aquatic Exercise Association within eight (8) months of hire; must obtain a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within eight (8) months of hire. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Supervise the facility personn Assume responsibility for the daily operations of the Natatorium. Assign responsibilities, establish work schedules, and evaluate performance. Conduct required in-service training for staff covering policies and procedures, safety requirements, and specific individual accountabilities. Maintain and communicate operating policies and procedures for the facility including instructions, safety regulations and special or emergency procedures to protect the facility and its Ensure strict adherence to the established policies and procedures through staff training, postings and enforcement. Train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; participate in the interview and selection employees and recommend disciplinary actions; assign employee duties and review work to assure accuracy, completeness and compliance with established standards, requirements and procedures. Provide technical training and assistance to FWCS employees regarding Natatorium activities and related functions; respond to inquiries and provide detailed technical information concerning related standards, requirements, data, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Maintain current knowledge of laws, codes, regulations, and pending legislature related to the payroll function; adjust activities to meet State and federal requirements as appropriate. Enforce and assure guest compliance with pool use, diving board, lap swimming and other applicable rules, regulations and policies; respond to complaints from guests, staff and others; respond to and report incidents and guest behavior problems to appropriate authorities. Provide lifeguard services; water exercise instruction; water safety instruction; teach swim/dive lessons to students, guests, rental groups, athletes and others in a safe and healthy manner as needed. Monitor swimming pool activities to maintain a safe, healthy and controlled environment for Observe Natatorium pool activities in accordance with established guidelines, policies and procedures. Plan, coordinate and provide instructional activities to assure safety of swimming activities; demonstrate, explain and assure student understanding of water safety rules, regulations, standards, procedures, practices, techniques and Enforce and assure student and guest compliance with pool use, diving board, lap swimming and other applicable rules, regulations and policies; assure guests remain in authorized areas of the pool; respond to complaints from guests, staff and others; report incidents and guest behavior problems to appropriate authority. Provide ongoing instruction and training activities for lifeguards; demonstrate and explain lifeguard practices, procedures, techniques, standards, guidelines, requirements, and related policies, rules and regulations; coordinate, arrange, monitor and follow-up on lifeguard training and in-services as directed. Oversee Natatorium activities in accordance with established guidelines and procedures; oversee swim and dive meets. Develop, implement and arrange related events and activities; operate timing system in accordance with established guidelines. Identify pool health and safety issues, threats and incidents. Enter pool and swim to rescue and retrieve guests as needed. Utilize rescue tube as needed. Inspect and assure proper operating condition of rescue equipment. Provide general information and assistance to Natatorium students, staff, parents and others; respond to inquiries and provide information concerning Natatorium operations, activities, services, schedules, time lines, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Respond to emergency situations in accordance with established policies and procedures; administer first aid to guests as necessary. Assist, prepare and facilitate a number of site-specific assignments, procedures and safety checks to ensure the successful operation of the facility. Cross-train responsibilities to provide back-up support for all operations related job. Ensure facility meets constant cleanliness expectations by evaluating, assigning and participating in facility cleaning tasks. Participate in the recruitment and organization of patrons for community programming; provide related promotional and outreach services. Maintain various records related to assigned activities. Maintain equipment to the highest standards through preventative maintenance/repairs, communication with the Director when items are broken and by making suggestions for new and replacement items. Maintain current knowledge of laws, codes, regulations and pending legislature related to the Board of Health and Center for Disease Contro Meet state and federal standards and codes for facility cleanliness, water quality, air quality and guest use. Enforce policies and protocol to meet said laws and codes. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS To perform the essential functions of this job effectively and safely, employees must meet the following physical qualifications: Communication Skills: Ability to speak clearly and hear effectively in various environments. Manual Dexterity: Adeptness in the use of hands and fingers. Postural Endurance: Sit or stand for prolonged periods, as the job requires. Flexibility: Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, or crouch to perform specific duties. Visual Acuity: Close vision ability with the capacity to adjust focus. Must maintain corrected 20/20 vision when supervising pool area. Mobility: Freedom to sit or walk at will throughout the work environment. Able to climb in/out of an elevated lifeguard chair. Strength and Stamina: Capability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to fifty (50) pounds or more. Working Conditions: Requires the ability to perform duties in a humid environment with routine exposure to pool-related chemicals. Frequent Interactions with students with significant behavioral needs. May involve supporting students in crisis situations in accordance with FWCS guidelines. Job Specific: Must meet all requirements as stated in the International Lifeguard Training Program (ILTP) license (Must be able to swim at least 200 yards of freestyle/breaststroke without stopping, retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the diving well, and must be able to tread water continuously for at least 2 minutes); Water Safety Instruction through the American Red Cross; the National Instructor's Certification through the Aquatic Exercise Association; and Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.
