Position Summary This role is contingent upon award. We are looking for a dedicated Psychiatric Advanced Practice Provider to join our team and make a meaningful impact through assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health disorders. You will work collaboratively with a healthcare team to implement effective treatment plans, monitor patient progress, and engage in crisis intervention when necessary. Conduct thorough evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment of psychiatric and mental health patients, including families, providing urgent and emergent care. Work under the clinical oversight of the Chief of Psychiatry and Clinical Director, adhering strictly to established Scope of Practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and consult psychiatrists for managing complex psychiatric cases. Oversee comprehensive mental health care, including off-site referrals and service coordination through various channels. Diagnose and treat both acute and chronic psychiatric disorders, offering counseling and prescribing medications as appropriate. Order and interpret diagnostic tests relevant to patients' psychiatric needs for effective treatment plans. Deliver urgent mental health evaluations, ensuring immediate actions are taken based on established policies. Engage in telepsychiatry services, coordinating care with local providers using secure video conferencing technology. Perform daily patient rounds, admissions, and discharges, keeping the Clinical Director informed of any significant findings. Provide health education to patients and ensure all training requirements are completed and documented. Assist in training team members in mental health policies and effectively utilize electronic health records. Demonstrate understanding of patient confidentiality guidelines and respond effectively to crises while fostering a supportive environment for patients. Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives to ensure adherence to standards and best practices. Build strong relationships within a multicultural and multilingual interdisciplinary environment, using excellent communication skills to engage effectively with patients and peers. Qualifications Unrestricted Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license issued by the state where services are provided. Current DEA registration for prescribing controlled medications. At least one year of clinical experience in direct patient care preferred, ideally in a correctional or detention setting. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, with training from the American Heart Association highly preferred. For Nurse Practitioners: Must possess PMHNP certification from the ANCC with an accredited PMHNP degree. For Physician Assistants: Must have national board certification with relevant experience in psychiatric settings. Attributes and Competencies: Exceptional oral and written communication abilities. Physical Requirements: Capable of physical activities including walking, jogging, lifting, and performing emergency procedures. Ability to function in stressful and challenging environments while maintaining professionalism.
