The expected salary for this position ranges from $148,500 to $165,000, based on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package including bonuses and 401(k) options. LOCATION This role offers flexibility for remote work. The Manager will lead a team of Development Engineers operating across the Mid-Atlantic US. Up to 30% travel each month will be necessary for team meetings with direct reports and senior management, with regular visits to our Warrendale, PA office. Candidates should work a corporate day-shift schedule aligned with Eastern Time Zone. Candidates residing in the Mid-Atlantic region, particularly Maryland, D.C., or Northern Virginia, will best accommodate regular travel needs. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION The Manager of Development Engineering will provide hands-on leadership for the Development Engineering team, focusing on Infrastructure Renewal and Building Upgrade & Improvement projects with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability. The Manager is responsible for ensuring projects and project engineers meet both internal and external objectives. This role includes guiding Project Development Engineers throughout various development phases, such as identification, qualification, conceptualization, pre-development, and development, along with associated activities. Close collaboration with Sales and Construction teams is essential to support current and future opportunities. The Manager will also oversee department budgets to ensure development costs remain within limits. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical) and at least 10 years of related experience in consulting engineering, design-build, or energy services. Ability to excel under pressure in dynamic, fast-paced environments. Professional Engineer (PE) License. Experience in financial management. Solid background in financial planning and cost management. Strong expertise in engineering and construction methodologies, including energy calculations and technical documentation. Experience in reviewing and enhancing technical deliverables like proposals and Investment Grade Audits (IGAs). Adeptness in handling stressful situations and emergencies effectively. Capability to adapt to changing work environments, manage competing demands, and navigate unexpected events. Technical, analytical, consulting, and organizational skills along with demonstrated writing and speaking skills. Proven ability to manage development engineering projects incorporating sound project management practices and financial oversight, including budgeting and cost control. Strong communication and presentation skills, along with expertise in technical writing and report generation. Demonstrated organizational and project management skills. Leadership experience in strategy development, planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating activities. Experience in project budgeting, cost tracking, and estimating. Supervisory experience in employee development, performance management, training, and conflict resolution. Ability to manage high-demand situations professionally and diplomatically. Valid driver's license is required. Must be proficient in English, with strong grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills for precise communication. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience in energy conservation project development involving renewable technologies, biomass, combustion turbines, and landfill gas facilities. Proficiency in load calculations and energy analysis using industry-standard software like EnergyPlus, eQuest, Trane Trace 3D, and solar PV evaluation tools such as Helioscope. Familiarity with design software, especially AutoCAD. Experience in project scheduling and tracking with tools like Primavera and other construction project management software. Credentials such as CEM and/or LEED AP. Experience using project scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or MS Project.
