Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/30/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring strong vasoactive drip management experience, with an every-other-weekend requirement and night shift schedule. Responsibilities Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) that functions similarly to an ICU, within an inpatient hospital setting ICU stepdown unit with 20 beds serving a diverse patient population including post-rapid response, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, GI bleeds, withdrawal, pre/post-op (GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomies, neuro, ortho), and pre/post OB with complications (Pitocin) Patient population spans adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups Patient ratio is 1:3–4 Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15) Every other weekend required Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit 36 or 48 hours per week available No block scheduling EMR system: Epic; medication dispensing via Pyxis Bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup; no ventilators on the unit Vasoactive drips used on unit include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo; maximum of one pressor drip per patient before ICU transfer Hospital orientation occurs during week one; candidate must be available for in-person classes each day of orientation week First-time travelers are welcome to apply Local candidates are accepted Scrub colors: Navy, White, or a combination of the two RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged on-site; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation Requirements Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact RN license Minimum 2 years of RN experience required PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown unit experience required Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Strong vasoactive drip titration experience is required Required clinical skills: arterial line management, telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation and management, IV insulin protocols, heparin protocols, blood product administration, central line care, peripheral line care, PICC line management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management, use of rapid response teams, isolation precautions, IV insertion, and conscious sedation Must be able to recognize and treat dysrhythmias Must pass EKG testing prior to start 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration State Board of Nursing license verification and NURSYS verification required for consideration Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID #P-677200.
