The Summer@Potomac Camp Nurse is a seasonal position that reports to the Director of Summer Programs. This position is from June 15-July 31 with the expected hours of work are 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday. Additionally, the Nurse is expected to attend pre-camp meetings that begin in May and be available for Open House and all pre-camp work. The Camp Nurse is responsible for working in tandem with the Director of Health Services providing professional medical care, administering daily medication and responding to emergencies. This role requires a blend of clinical expertise, pediatric empathy, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced camp environment, serving as a leadership presence that nurtures community and ensures a healthy camp environment. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide first aid and medical care to campers and staff members, as needed Manage medical emergencies and coordinate care with local healthcare providers when needed Administer medications at appropriate times Monitor for allergies and infectious diseases during the camp day Ensure safety of campers and staff members by promoting effective health practices, and reporting any health trends or concerns Communicate with parents and staff members about sick or injured campers. Maintain an accurate and confidential log of treatment administered and communication with camper families in Campbrain. Document health office visits and maintain its confidentiality Prepare first aid kits and emergency medications for field trips Manage and maintain inventory of medications, supplies for first aid kit and other necessary medical supplies for the nurse's office Actively participate in camp activities to build relationships with campers and staff Ensuring the proper use of Summer@Potomac facilities and equipment Attend and promote all staff meetings Participate in staff orientations, pre-camp staff training, preparations for camp opening and meetings Adhere to the procedures and policies outlined in the Summer@Potomac Handbook Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications: Registered Nurse, currently licensed in the state of Virginia Must have current First Aid CPR certification A minimum of 5 years of experience of working with kids (ages 5-12), preferred in a school setting Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to work autonomously, complemented by excellent organizational, computer and communication skills for engaging with parents and summer staff. Responsible, energetic, enthusiastic and have a positive attitude. Physical ability to participate in activities with campers (run, sit on the floor, walk and stand for longer periods of time). Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences within a diverse population of campers and staff. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background investigation which involves fingerprinting and TB screening.
