Position InformationFunctional TitleTurning the Tide – Electrical MechanicRecruitment Category TypeStandardFunctional CategoryProductionGradeTC.01FLSA StatusNon-ExemptRequisition Number26-0156Number of Vacancies1Job LevelStaffJob CodeN/AJob Description SummaryOrganization NameWestern Branch WRRFReports toElectrical/Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor (Plant); Section Manager, Electrical/Mechanical MaintenanceFull or Part TimeFull TimeIf Part Time how many hours per weekRegular or TemporaryTemporaryPosition End Date (if temporary)Work ScheduleMonday – FridayWork hours are to be determinedPosition LocationUpper MarlboroPosition Summary InformationGeneral SummaryTheElectrical Mechanicperforms a variety of installation, maintenance, and repair work using a broad assortment of electrical/mechanical equipment within the Electrical Mechanical Section.Essential Functions Inspects, tests, and repairs electric motors and other electrical and mechanical devices Installs motor controls, pump motors, street lights, heaters, exhaust fans, main feeders, conduits, breakers, switchgear Maintains high and low pressure steam boilers Maintains and repairs drive units, fuel pumps, air compressors, lump breakers, grinders, scum pumps, off-gas systems, fuel oil tanks, multi-hearth incinerators and pumps Replaces chains, bearings, sprockets, augers, shafts, grease lines and flights Lubricates and paints plant equipment; performs general plumbing and replaces malfunctioning pumps Repairs and maintains water softener systems, cranes, boiler feed pumps, centrifuges, air dryers, re-aeration tanks and pneumatic controls Repairs bar screens and conveyors and replaces couplings Assists Electrical/Mechanical Technician in the repair of transformers, high voltage power supplies, and other equipment Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business Other FunctionsPerforms related duties as requiredWork Environment And Physical DemandsIndustrial wastewater plant environmentRequired Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Considerable knowledge of the practices, tools, materials, equipment, methods and techniques of the electrical/mechanics trade Knowledge of the applicable occupational hazards and safety precautions Knowledge of electrical/mechanical theory Skill in the use of tools and equipment Ability to locate and correct defects in electrical and mechanical systems Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions Ability to work in inclement weather and fluctuating temperatures, climbing ladders, scaffolding, and descending underground, as well as exposure to the hazards of working in confined spaces with high-voltage electricity. Minimum Education, Experience Requirements High School diploma or equivalent Experience in electrical or mechanical maintenance work at the level of an electrical or mechanic helper Completion of technical courses in basic electricity, blueprints and schematics Additional Requirements Possession of a valid driver’s license with no more than 4 points and the ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver’s permit within 90 days of hire or transfer Employees in this position are designated or considered emergency personnel; therefore, the employee must report to work as scheduled or as directed by their supervisor when WSSC Water declares an event that requires emergency personnel to report to work If assigned to the AD/ CHP (Bio-Energy) facility, incumbent(s) must obtain a Maryland 3rd Grade Stationary Engineers License within 4 years PreferencesAdditional experience is helpfulSalaryCommensurate with education and experiencePosting Detail InformationEEO StatementAN EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYERIt is the policy of the Commission to select new employees and to promote current employees without regard to race, sexual orientation, sex, religion, national origin, marital status, or handicap.
