At SMMC, we develop supervisors to become our future medical leaders and are looking for medical professionals who are interested in developing or expanding their leadership skills in a Health Care System. SMMC is seeking a Supervising Nurse Practitioner to lead the Daly City Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) providing comprehensive primary care services to nearly 7,000 patients. This clinic offers adult, pediatric, podiatry, and dental care, with integrated behavioral health, social work, and pharmacist support. The Supervising Nurse Practitioner will work alongside a highly skilled team to ensure patient-centered and data-driven healthcare delivery. The Supervising Nurse Practitioner will collaborate with the Medical Director in planning, organizing and directing the activities and staff of the Daly City Clinic, and developing standards for primary care service lines. This classification is distinguished from the Nurse Practitioner Series for having full administrative supervisory responsibility over other Nurse Practitioners. The selected individual will spend up to 60% of time in direct patient care at SMMC. Key Responsibilities Provide 60% direct patient care and 40% leadership & supervision Oversee adult, pediatric, podiatry, and dental care services Lead a multidisciplinary team including RNs, behavioral health professionals, and social workers Drive quality improvement initiatives and operational excellence Mentor and supervise Nurse Practitioners and Ambulatory Care Nurses The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skill and success in all or most of the following areas: Communication and Consensus Building: has experience bringing diverse viewpoints and stakeholders together successfully to accomplish goals and commands the trust and respect of others. Vision, Initiative, and Innovation: has a keen interest in team-based care and creating a positive patient experience and has demonstrated innovation and initiative in realizing that vision. Project Management and Teamwork: has overseen and led complex projects and coordinated interdisciplinary teams. Supervision and mentoring: has significant experience in supervising and mentoring others. At least two years of experience as a Practitioner, and a minimum of six months of lead or supervisory experience overseeing clinic care. Examples Of DutiesDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide administrative direction and supervision over all Daly City Clinic Nurse Practitioners, including assigning, directing, monitoring the work and performance. Act as a resource to staff and provide advice on more complex clinical and administrative issues; provide direction, guidance, and leadership to staff; and prepare performance evaluations. Monitor adherence to medical policies, procedures and Standardized Protocols and recommend changes as needed. Assist in identifying, implementing, and evaluating program or clinic goals, objectives, and priorities that align with the department's overall goals and objectives. Work closely with Medical Director, Assistant Medical Director, Contracted Physician and/or Clinic Manager for assigned clinic/program ensure consistent clinical practices across the Medical Center. Work with Clinic Manager, Assistant Medical Director, Medical Director and/or Contracted Physician in managing, improving and problem-solving clinic flow, process and space issues. Work with Medical Director, Assistant Medical Director, and/or Contracted Physician for assigned clinic/program and Clinic Managers to ensure staff and physician clinic schedules align, including managing the assignment of schedule sessions and clinical coverage for all clinic providers. Serve as the LEAN representative assigned clinic/program. Assess the health of patients to determine their physical, emotional, and social status by taking a complete medical history, doing a physical examination, initiating screening and diagnostic procedures etc.; evaluate results of clinical findings and laboratory tests; report any abnormalities to a physician. Identify and manage in collaboration with a physician, common illnesses and/or other health problems and refer these problems or illnesses that require immediate medical attention to the appropriate practicing physician; assume on-going responsibility for follow-ups. Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals regarding health problems and illnesses following established protocol relative to diagnosis and treatment of patients. Coordinate and facilitate referrals to other health or social agencies. Maintain accurate records of assessments, follow-ups, and evaluations. Supervise the work of subordinate health workers and participate in professional and administrative meetings. Perform related duties as assigned. QualificationsThe level and scope of the knowledge and skills listed below are related to job duties as defined under Distinguishing Characteristics. Knowledge of: Principles of personnel training, supervision and evaluation, as well as hiring and selection. Principles, practices and procedures used in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of common health problems as related to the clinical specialty. Laws, statutes, codes, and regulations related to the specialty area which govern health service providers, and Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements. Fundamentals of clinical medicine as related to the clinical specialty of the Clinic or Service. Drugs commonly used in the area of specialty including the indications of their use, anticipated therapeutic effect, side effects and untoward reactions and contraindications. Safety and infection control practices and procedures. Normal and abnormal values of laboratory tests and their clinical significance. Operations and care of medical equipment and instruments used in the area of specialty. Laws and regulations pertinent to the practice of nursing and medicine applicable to assigned specialty. Community resources and referral systems. Provisions of the Nurse Practice Act. Skill/Ability to: Supervise and coordinate administrative and operational activities related to assigned clinic or program. Coordinate activities with other departments or programs within the Medical Center and the County. Direct and participate in the analysis of a wide variety of moderate to complex operational problems and make effective operational and/or procedural recommendations. Interpret policies, guidelines and procedures; develop recommendations for improvements, as necessary. Supervise, evaluate and train assigned personnel. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Assess the health status of patients. Provide health care services including the taking of a complete medical history, doing complete physical examination and other related clinical procedures. Identify and manage health problems common in the area of specialty. Develop and implement treatment plans for patients according to policies and protocol. Analyze and interpret health information/data including results of laboratory testing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, professional staff and others. Follow safety practices and procedures. Maintain accurate records and prepare reports. Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is; Three years of practice within specialty area or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Licensure/Certification: Possession of a California license as a Registered Nurse. Possession of a California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Nurse Practitioner Certification.
