Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJob Description: General Ledger (G/L) AccountantDepartment:AccountingReports To:Accounting SupervisorPosition OverviewThe General Ledger Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the month-end close process. This role owns assigned G/L accounts, prepares journal entries and reconciliations, supports inventory accounting, and assists with audits while ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies.Key Responsibilities Maintain assigned general ledger accounts and supporting documentation in accordance with GAAP.Prepare and post journal entries accurately and timely, including month-end close entries.Perform monthly account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.Analyze assigned accounts to ensure financial statements are complete, accurate, and free of misstatement.Monitor G/L accounts and ensure alignment with sub-ledgers; research and resolve variances.Review key account activity on a regular basis and communicate questions or issues to operations or field teams.Prepare preliminary inventory tie-outs and support inventory control activities throughout the year.Review physical inventory counts, record required adjustments, and ensure timely completion of reviews.Review claim files for aged or unusual transactions and prepare summary reporting for operations.Assist with audit preparation by gathering documentation and supporting schedules.Update accounting procedures as business needs or company policies change.Assist managers and field personnel with questions related to assigned G/L accounts.Support special projects as assigned by accounting leadership. Non-Essential Responsibilities Cross-train on Accounting Supervisor daily duties. Experience & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.2–5 years of general ledger or corporate accounting experience.Prior experience in a private or publicly held company accounting environment.Experience with inventory accounting and audit support preferred. Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.Proven ability to prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.High attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.Proficiency with accounting systems and financial software.Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Windows-based applications.Effective written and verbal communication skills. Work Environment & Expectations Standard work schedule of approximately 40–50 hours per week; additional hours may be required during month-end close or audit periods.Regular interaction with internal departments and occasional interaction with external contacts.Ongoing access to confidential and proprietary financial information.
