Salary: $28.00 - $38.00 Hourly Location : Everett, WA Job Type: Day Laborer Job Number: L260XX Department: Public Works Day Laborers Opening Date: 02/09/2026 Nature of Work WATER QUALITYSEASONAL DAY LABORER$28.00-38.00/per hour The City of Everett is currently accepting applications for a Water Quality Seasonal Day Laborer in the Public Works department. This position requires work at both the Water Filtration Plant in Sultan and at our main office in Everett, WA. This employment is temporary; up to 6-months in duration. It is mandatory that the employee in this position contribute to the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System. This contribution is refundable upon the employees request at the completion of employment. These positions are not provided with City of Everett benefits. SCHEDULE AND HOURS: This position offers up to 40 hours per week (negotiable if needed) and includes a 9/80 flexible schedule, providing every other Friday off. NATURE OF WORK: This is specialized technical work performed in the laboratory and in the field. Work involves a combination of field sampling and field and laboratory testing responsibilities, maintenance of field sampling and testing equipment, laboratory facilities and equipment and various other tasks associated with water quality assurance, water quality control, process control and industrial pretreatment. An employee in this class works under the general supervision of the assigned supervisor. Work is reviewed for compliance with established policies, procedures and standards and is evaluated on the basis of reports, discussions, observations and results obtained. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK: Routine water quality sampling for both regulatory compliance and process control for the Everett Water Filtration Plant Routine online analyzer and laboratory instrument calibration Inventory and stocking of lab Routine lab related paperwork Data handling and summarization May complete other sampling, laboratory, pilot plant, or data related tasks as needed under supervision KNOWLEDGE OF: Industry standard publications: "Standard Methods for the Examination of Water and Wastewater" and "Chemical Analysis of Water and Wastewater." Quality assurance/quality control statistical analytical techniques and their application in an Environmental Laboratory. Familiarity with applicable Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act regulations. Operation of flowmeters, autosamplers and other field monitoring equipment. Laboratory hazards and ability/willingness to employ the necessary safety precautions applicable to the work environment such as proper and safe storage of equipment, materials and supplies, wearing of safety clothing and the care of personal equipment. Operation of personal computers and skill in various software program manipulations. SKILLS AND ABILITY TO: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and outside agencies. Work and interact professionally with the public. Effectively communicate technical information both verbally and in writing; to prepare clear concise reports and maintain accurate records. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other city staff, and the public. Relate to others in a courteous and respectful manner. Work safely and in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, and with City laws, policies, and standards. Support diversity and multicultural understanding in the workplace. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: BS or BA degree in chemistry, biology, laboratory sciences or related field OR Two (2) years college level coursework in chemistry, biology, water bacteriology, wastewater technology, industrial pretreatment or related field, AND Two (2) years related technical work experience. Experience with conducting conventional analyses on water and wastes and familiarity with Standard Methods for Examination of Water and Wastewater is highly desirable. Possession of, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Washington State Driver License or equivalent. Work in a potentially dangerous physical environment with exposure to offensive odors and fumes and potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents. Physical ability and knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as described in the job description, including the ability to lift and handle objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
