Job Description The Village was one of the first agencies in the country to provide homes for neglected children. Today, we continue to achieve our mission "to build a community of strong, healthy families who protect and nurture children" by providing a full range of behavioral health, early childhood and youth development, substance use treatment and support services for children, adults and families in the Greater Hartford, Connecticut region. In order to accomplish this, we hire the most qualified, experienced staff and support creativity and innovation so that we can come up with solutions that work. We are about lasting, sustainable change for individuals and families today and communities tomorrow. With a strong commitment to workforce development, The Village sponsors internships for students who are enrolled in undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the social work, counseling, nursing, and administrative fields. Our interns come from a variety of colleges and universities in and around New England. Acceptance is based upon the availability of supervision in the student's area of interest, prior experience and learning needs. Referrals are accepted from January 1 to June 1 for internships that start in September and end in May. There may be a limited number of summer block placements, given both programmatic and supervisory availability. Experience and Skills Requirements Currently enrolled inan undergraduate program at a college or university Work or volunteer experience with children, adults and/or families Recommendation from their school program Interview Supervision and Training Individual/group by a professional staff member whose degree is commensurate with the program requirements Access to a diverse array of agency-sponsored training opportunities Diverse Experiences Trauma-informed settings Individual, family and group work Community-based programs Multidisciplinary, multicultural teams Research or program evaluation Process The internship training program relies on the ability of program areas and their supervisors to accommodate the academic needs of each student and provide a rich learning environment that supports both the student and the program area. Interviewing, matching and agency agreements are all a part of the process and are conducted through the training program. The internship program also provides opportunities for staff who are interested in pursuing an advanced degree.
