The Institutional Product Group establishes the foundation for Coinbase's institutional business, enabling numerous large financial institutions to securely store their digital assets and actively participate in the crypto economy. We take pride in creating a scalable and secure crypto platform that supports a diverse array of assets and functionalities, including staking, governance, and web3 gateways. As a member of the Derivatives - FCM Execution team, you will oversee the critical derivatives execution stack, which includes the Order Management System (OMS), algorithmic trading, and venue connectivity. This platform accommodates various assets such as futures, perpetuals, options, and predictions, supporting key Coinbase products like Prime, Retail Simple, and Retail Advanced. You will spearhead the team’s growth and scaling initiatives, act as a key liaison with stakeholders and partners, and drive the expansion of product offerings while maintaining high engineering quality standards. Key Responsibilities: Lead engineering teams focused on developing critical systems that empower institutional products and reshape the crypto landscape. Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn our vision into actionable roadmaps, breaking down complex projects into manageable tasks for iterative design and implementation. Serve as a technical leader, supporting sound architectural decisions and fostering a culture of operational excellence and high quality. Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure effective delivery of complex, distributed systems at scale. Mentor and support your direct reports, positively influencing the organization and aiding their professional development. Partner with our talent organization to identify and recruit exceptional engineers who align with Coinbase’s values and can contribute to our mission. Oversee processes to ensure engineering quality and compliance with our engineering service level agreements. Qualifications: Minimum of 7 years of software engineering experience. At least 2 years of experience in engineering management. Strong ability to balance strategic long-term vision with practical short-term planning. Experience in building and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale. Hands-on capability as needed—whether that involves writing or reviewing code, leading incident management, or troubleshooting complex issues. A passion for developing an open financial system that connects the world. Preferred Experience: Experience in trading. Experience with derivatives (futures, perpetuals, options, prediction markets). Full-time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and comprehensive benefits (including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
