Salary: $23.00 - $24.00 Hourly Location : Lacey, WA Job Type: Seasonal Job Number: 2026-00075 Department: Public Works Operations Opening Date: 02/19/2026 BASIC PURPOSE POSITIONS AVAILABLE IN THREE DIVISIONS: Streets Signs & Markings Stormwater Employees will be assigned to one of three divisions: Streets: Under immediate or general supervision, performs street and sidewalk repair and/or maintenance. Signs & Markings: Under immediate or general supervision, performs installation and maintenance to street signs, thermoplastic markings, raised pavement markers, and parking lot painting. Stormwater Maintenance: Under immediate or general supervision, performs general maintenance duties in support of the City's Stormwater Operations. The season will last six (6) months: April 22, 2026 - October 21, 2026. Please note: the Hiring Manager reserves the right to make changes to this posting at any time. Once all the position(s) from the recruitment announcement are filled, the recruitment may only be used to fill additional open positions for the next 6 (six) months. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSTREETS: Assists with the set up and removal of temporary traffic control. Picks up litter, weed eats around obstacles, and flags traffic for slope-mowing operations. Assists with the removal and replacement of concrete sidewalk. Assists with roadway repairs to include shoveling and raking of materials. Works on crack sealing crew by prepping cracks for sealant and assisting with mobile traffic control. Under supervision, trims trees and shrubs for right-of-way clearance. Under supervision, pulls noxious weeds from the right-of-way. Flagging. Other duties as assigned. SIGNS & MARKINGS: Assists with sign fabrication. Trims, washes, straightens, and maintains existing signs near and within traffic. Installs new signs and poles, replacing sign poles that are knocked down. Assists with the setting up and removal of traffic control devices (signs & cones) for work zones. Maintenance and installation of hot applied raised pavement markers. Maintenance and installation of hot applied road markings. Assists with parking lot painting maintenance. Flagging. Other duties as assigned. STORMWATER MAINTENANCE: Operates large lawn mowers and tractors over rough and uneven terrain. Utilizes landscape maintenance tools including but not limited to push mower, shovel, rake, and broom. Removal of litter from storm ponds. Assists in the cleaning of catch basins by working in support of the Vactor truck operator. Sets up traffic controls. Documents and tracks daily maintenance. General stormwater system maintenance: catch basin repair and system upgrades. Flagging. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years of age or older. Must pass a thorough background investigation. Must maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Must have a valid Washington State driver license and a driving record acceptable to the City and the City's insurance carrier. Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be complete as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Street maintenance and/or signs & markings experience preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Ability to safely operate City vehicles with a trailer. Demonstrated ability to adhere to the work rules and guidelines. Demonstrated basic mechanical aptitude. Demonstrated ability to work independently. WORKING CONDITIONS Work Environment: Typical assignments are out-of-doors normally requiring work in inclement weather at cold, hot, dirty, wet, noisy, or cramped work sites. The work involves physical labor, physical dexterity, and mechanical aptitude. Duties may require exposure to chemicals, toxic gases, raw sewage, or other environmental hazards. Physical Abilities: Hearing, speaking, or otherwise communicating to exchange information in person or on the phone. Perform physical labor associated with the essential duties of the position. Work in the field in all weather conditions and over rough terrain. Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to fifty (50) lbs. Some assistance is available to mitigate the heaviest lifting. Some assistance is available to mitigate the heaviest lifting. Bending, kneeling/crouching, reaching, climbing and crawling. Operating equipment; electric, gas, and various hand tools. Grasp and hold and effectively use assigned personal protective equipment and tools for the position. Temporary/seasonal positions are not eligible for health insurance, other insurances, holidays, vacation, and/or other paid leave benefits provided to regular full-time positions; however, they are covered by Workers' Compensation Insurance. The City will comply with RCW 49.46.210 and WAC's 296-128-600 through 296-128-700 in providing paid sick leave to all covered employees (non-exempt). Social Security and Federal withholding taxes will be deducted from wages. Temporary/seasonal positions are eligible for membership and will participate in the Department of Retirement Systems.
