Job Description Chief Inspector (Civil) Description Willingness to learn and ability to communicate effectively both orally and written. Verbal communication includes speaking with the Resident Engineer, other contract staff, facility staff both in person via two-way communications. Ability to read and interpret plans and specs and prepare written contract administration documentation such as daily narratives (work reports), special inspection reports, daily time and material records, and document unit price work. Identify potential extra work issues and keep the Resident Engineer advised of issues. Prepare estimates of extra work. Prepare related sketches and documentation. Review plans for constructability and prepare comments. Review contractor payment requests and recommend reasonableness to the Resident Engineer. Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering is preferred A minimum 10 years' experience preferred inspecting construction work, varied in size (projects ranging from $200K to $25 million plus) and complexity (multiple crews and crew sizes per shift). In addition to night and weekend shift work, ability to stay late or come in early as needed. Ability to pass a JFK SIDA badge background check at a High Level (mandatory). A valid Driver's license required Trained in excavation protection, confined space and permit required confined space OSHA regulations and 10 hr. OSHA construction safety training. NICET Level 4, Bolting, Masonry, Concrete, Asphalt Technology and/or Work Zone Safety Certifications desirable.
