As a Senior Underwriting Specialist, you will be a key technical leader within the Life Underwriting practice for Financial Protection and Retirement Solutions. Your Profile You are an established authority in life underwriting, adept at interpreting complex business challenges and delivering innovative solutions. You possess the flexibility to adapt existing precedents and implement approaches that enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction while keeping mortality results favorable within company targets. Additionally, you are a reliable resource for both peers and leadership, offering guidance on challenging cases and the integration of digital tools. Qualifications In-depth expertise in individual life underwriting, particularly with complex and high-value cases. Proven track record of adopting and promoting technology-driven solutions, utilizing automated underwriting platforms and data analytics. Experience with reinsurance frameworks, including treaty language interpretation, retention limits, automatic and facultative reinsurance rules, and collaboration with reinsurance partners. Familiar with emerging technologies (such as Electronic Health Records (EHR), GenAI, wearable tech) and behavioral economics. Knowledge of quality control programs (e.g., Random Holdouts (RHO), Post-Issue Audits (PIA)) and reliance on analytics for ongoing improvement. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a knack for developing innovative solutions. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, effective in influencing peers and supporting leadership. Responsibilities Act as a leading technical expert on the team, managing complex and high-stakes cases, reviewing appeals and reinsurance submissions to ensure alignment with underwriting guidelines, mortality expectations, and product standards. Provide expert guidance on escalated cases, resolving complex issues for staff and management at all levels. Utilize your comprehensive reinsurance knowledge to ensure proper use of automatic and facultative reinsurance, evaluate treaty requirements, and work closely with reinsurance underwriters. Serve as a reliable underwriting partner to Distribution and Field leadership, offering clear guidance and responsive support to enhance case placements and foster strong relationships. Maintain a thorough understanding of underwriting guidelines, risk assessment practices, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and consistency. Advocate for the adoption and effective integration of modern underwriting tools into daily workflows. Resolve complex underwriting challenges across the team, applying creative solutions. Mentor and train underwriters in advanced case management and digital tool utilization. Stay updated on industry trends and share insights to guide informed business choices. Collaborate with the entire life underwriting team (managers, transformation specialists, etc.) to support effective transformation initiatives. Reporting Structure As the Senior Underwriting Specialist, you will report to the Underwriting Manager. Position Details This is a remote position. Travel Requirements The role requires less than 10% travel. Compensation The salary range for this position is $86,210.00 - $141,635.00. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's education, experience, and skills. Additionally, this role may qualify for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
