Electrical Maintenance Technician

Job Summary The Laser CNC Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing CNC laser welding, cutting, marking, and drilling systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role supports production by minimizing downtime, maintaining laser performance, and executing preventive maintenance on laser sources, motion systems, and supporting equipment. Key Responsibilities Equipment Maintenance & Repair Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on CNC laser systems (fiber and CO?), including laser sources, beam delivery, optics, motion systems, and controls Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and optical issues Align optics and beam paths; inspect and replace lenses, nozzles, and protective windows Maintain chiller systems, cooling loops, and gas delivery systems Troubleshoot alarms, faults, and performance degradation Support laser welding, cutting, marking, and drilling systems as applicable Controls & Diagnostics Troubleshoot CNC controllers, servo drives, encoders, sensors, and safety circuits Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and technical manuals Interface with OEM software for diagnostics, calibration, and parameter adjustments Preventive Maintenance Execute scheduled PMs per OEM and internal procedures Maintain accurate maintenance logs and equipment history Identify wear trends and recommend proactive repairs or upgrades Safety & Compliance Follow laser safety protocols (Class 1-4 as applicable) Maintain interlocks, guarding, and safety systems Support compliance with OSHA, ANSI, ISO, ITAR and internal safety standards Continuous Improvement & Support Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams Assist with equipment installations, relocations, and upgrades Train operators on basic machine care and troubleshooting Support root cause analysis for recurring equipment failures Required Qualifications 3+ years of experience maintaining CNC laser equipment or similar industrial machinery Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills Experience with fiber and CO? lasers both digital and analog preferred Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings Comfortable working with high-voltage equipment and laser safety standards Familiarity with chillers, vacuum systems, assist gas systems, and motion control Proficient with hand tools, precision measuring tools, and diagnostic equipment Preferred Qualifications OEM training or certification (Trumpf, Bystronic, Amada, Mazak, Coherent, IPG, etc.) PLC troubleshooting experience (Fanuc, Coherent, IPG) Experience with laser welding systems and galvo scanners Understanding of optics, beam quality, and laser process parameters Physical & Work Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Ability to stand, bend, and work in confined spaces Willingness to work off-shift, weekends, or on-call as needed Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly wage or salary based on experience Overtime and on-call pay (if applicable) Medical, dental, vision insurance 401(k) with company match Paid time off and holidays Training and certification opportunities Minimum requirements: Ability to read and comprehend drawings and work instructions Understanding of laser components; wave lengths; optics; assist gases Understanding of manufacturing computer applications Time Management skills, must be able to multitask Ability to lift 50 lbs.
