American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Phoenix, Arizona. Job Description & Requirements Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: 03/16/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Adult ICU position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience in a large teaching hospital setting. Responsibilities Acute care hospital setting with a combined SICU, MICU, and Trauma ICU totaling 120 beds (40 beds per pod) MICU patient population includes sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, prone therapy, heat stroke, and overdose - most patients are intubated SICU patient population includes post-operative vented patients and transplant cases (lung, liver, kidney), as well as complex surgical cases such as Whipple procedures TICU patient population includes all trauma cases such as MVAs, GSWs, closed head injuries, and orthopedic trauma Bedside procedures include bronchoscopies, tracheostomies, and hemodialysis catheter placements RNs are required to titrate drips and manage common titratable and set-rate infusions RNs must read and interpret their own cardiac monitor strips Ventilator equipment in use includes Cervo I, jet ventilators, and oscillators Intensivist and respiratory therapy staff are present 24/7 Charting is performed in Cerner 12-hour day shifts (7am-7pm) with self-scheduling (scheduler retains the right to rebalance) 3 weekend shifts required every 4 weeks Holidays are worked in rotation with core staff Travelers may be required to float among all ICU areas as well as Med/Surg and Telemetry units, and may float to an additional campus location Navy scrubs are required Natural hair color and no facial piercings are required per facility dress code; male nurses must be clean-shaven for fit testing On Day 1 of orientation, RNs must pass a hands-on SIMs Lab skills assessment covering sterile Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes - this is a pass/fail evaluation and competency in sterile field technique is essential Additional orientation topics include lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational/informational only) Orientation consists of 2 shifts on the floor following SIMs Lab Failing the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or the sterile technique assessment on the second attempt may result in ineligibility for CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento region facilities for 6 months Candidates must have their own personal vehicle Requirements Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license required - must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS - pending certifications are not accepted Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required Experience in a 600+ bed academic teaching hospital is required Level 1 Trauma experience is required Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation - two attempts are allowed Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Valid driver's license required for consideration Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license is used to verify permanent address) Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year - candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID #P-675425.
