About the job SUMMARY Responsible for supervising workers who prepare items for shipping, assist with receipt of shipments and load and unload trucks as well as for routing items received to personnel and departments. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping schedules. Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments. Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contact outside service facility for repair. Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving area to storage and work areas, ensures logging in daily deliveries. Posts weight and shipping charges; prepares bills of lading; adjusts errors and complaints. Issues written and oral instructions; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of shipping and receiving area. Ensures correct medications and supplies are packed and shipped to correct address. Coordinates delivery schedules for any local couriers. Issues FedEx and other carrier call tags; pulls supplies for orders. Coordinates, as necessary, the day-to-day work activities of one or more nonexempt shipping personnel. Provides backup support to inventory management for supply items used in the pharmacies. Requisitions material required to meet production goals. Examines items produced to determine if items meet specifications. Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations. Interprets specifications and job orders to workers and assigns duties. Establishes or adjusts work procedures / flow to meet production schedules. Recommends measures to improve production methods, working conditions, quality of product, equipment performance and use to increase the efficiency of the department. Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Maintains time and production records. Performs activities of workers supervised, fills in for staff as needed to meet production requirements. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; at least 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
