Job Title: Sustainability Engineer Location: Michigan (On-site / Hybrid / Field-Based) Employment Type: Full-Time We are looking for a passionate and detail-oriented Sustainability Engineer to join our team, focusing on environmental compliance and innovative sustainability solutions. In this role, you will play a crucial part in assessing environmental impacts, ensuring adherence to regulations, and fostering initiatives that contribute to sustainability goals while aligning with business objectives. As a successful candidate, you will possess a solid understanding of environmental regulations and demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with the capacity to collaborate effectively across various teams including operations and engineering. Key Responsibilities: Ensure compliance with various environmental regulations including EPA, EGLE (Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy), and local guidelines. Conduct thorough environmental assessments, audits, and inspections of facilities and operations to identify areas for improvement. Develop, implement, and oversee effective environmental management programs and maintain necessary permits. Assist in air, water, waste, and stormwater compliance initiatives to safeguard our natural resources. Prepare and maintain detailed environmental reports, documentation, and permit applications to streamline auditing processes. Investigate environmental incidents, ascertain root causes, and recommend actionable corrective measures. Collaborate closely with operations and engineering teams to create sustainable and environmentally responsible solutions. Support sustainability initiatives, including pollution prevention and waste reduction campaigns. Act as a technical liaison with regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders to facilitate effective communication. Stay informed on current environmental regulations and industry best practices to ensure continuous improvement. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field. 2+ years of relevant experience in environmental compliance, engineering, or a similar role (experience level is flexible). Solid working knowledge of federal and Michigan environmental regulations. Preferred experience with permitting, reporting, and regulatory compliance. Strong analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and attention to documentation detail. Excellent communication skills, capable of translating technical information for non-technical audiences. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and various environmental reporting systems. Preferred Qualifications: Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. Experience in sectors such as manufacturing, waste management, energy, or environmental services. Familiarity with ISO 14001 or environmental management systems.
