Position Overview Veradigm is seeking a motivated Cybersecurity Intern to join our Information Security team. This internship provides hands-on exposure to security operations, engineering, and cutting-edge AI-assisted tooling. You will work alongside experienced security professionals to protect healthcare data across complex cloud and on-premises environments - while developing practical skills that bridge traditional security disciplines with next-generation AI capabilities. Key Responsibilities Security Operations & Monitoring Support monitoring of data feeds from multiple security tools, correlating inputs into a cohesive picture to determine whether observed activity represents a false positive, an active external or internal attack, or accidental system access. Assist team members in rapidly triaging collections of data points to distinguish direct attacks, reconnaissance attempts, and false alarms rooted in unusual behavior patterns. Monitor outputs from audit and detection tools; communicate effectively to trace abnormal data points to root cause. Escalate findings appropriately and, where directed, take rapid steps to block potential risks to Veradigm data and services. Vulnerability Management & Application Security Support execution of source code and infrastructure scans; collaborate with development and engineering teams to identify, document, and classify suspected vulnerabilities by risk level. Assist in documenting scan results and tracking corrective action plans designed by Security Engineers and Architects. Security Engineering & Tool Operations Assist in the engineering, implementation, and operation of security tools and systems integrated across public and private cloud hosting environments. Support development and operational teams in the appropriate application of security best practices and advanced security technologies. Assist in the implementation of security solutions and help ensure the fidelity of alerts and reports flowing to the Security Operations Center (SOC). Participate in benchmarking, installation, configuration, and tuning of security tools under senior engineer guidance. Support day-to-day technical controls and escalation events from security tools and the SOC. Participate in the definition and documentation of SOC runbooks, processes, and procedures. AI-Assisted Security (Claude Code & Emerging Tools) Actively engage with Veradigm's AI-assisted security initiative, with a primary focus on Claude Code to accelerate detection engineering, automate repetitive security workflows, and develop internal tooling. Collaborate with the security team to identify high-value use cases for AI in threat hunting, log analysis, runbook automation, and vulnerability triage. Prototype and document AI-assisted scripts, queries, and workflows; contribute findings and best practices to the broader security team. Stay current on developments in AI security tooling and bring forward relevant insights to support Veradigm's security program maturity. Qualifications Required Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Basic understanding of networking fundamentals, operating systems (Windows and/or Linux), and security concepts. Genuine curiosity about cybersecurity threats, attacker techniques, and defensive technologies. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to document technical findings clearly. Demonstrated interest in or experience with AI tools, automation scripting, or developer workflows. Preferred Familiarity with SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk), endpoint detection tools, or vulnerability scanners. Experience with Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar scripting languages. Prior coursework or hands-on lab experience in incident response, threat intelligence, or ethical hacking. Experience working with large language models or AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot). Relevant certifications or coursework: CompTIA Security+ or equivalent. What You'll Gain Direct mentorship from Veradigm's SOC and Security Engineering teams, including Tier 3 Incident Response professionals. Exposure to enterprise-scale security operations protecting sensitive healthcare data across multi-cloud environments. Hands-on experience with industry-leading SIEM, EDR, and vulnerability management tools. A dedicated AI security project track leveraging Claude Code to develop real-world automation and detection capabilities. Opportunity to contribute to published detection rules, runbooks, and internal security tooling.
