Mortgage Underwriter Yorktown, Virginia 1st Advantage Federal Credit Union is currently seeking a full-time Mortgage Underwriter to support our Mortgage Department. Scheduled hours will be 40 hours per week between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Mortgage Underwriter will review and decision mortgage, correspondent and home equity loans, following Credit Union underwriting guidelines and/or agency underwriting guidelines, while remaining in compliance with all state and federal laws. 1st Advantage Federal Credit Union has been serving members in the Hampton Roads community since 1951. Mortgage Underwriter Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Decisions first mortgage loan applications, correspondent loan submissions and home equity loan applications according to credit union and/or agency guidelines depending on the product. Assists in training, mortgage appraisal analysis and other assignments by management. Makes recommendations regarding loan policies and procedures updates, including credit union underwriting guidelines. Provides monthly quality assessments of loan officer submission quality to branch management. Fields phone calls and answers questions regarding decisions made, from both internal colleagues, members and correspondent lenders. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Performance Measurements: Produce underwriting decisions within stated service level agreements ensuring compliance with all guidelines. Maintain low delinquency ratio. Provide an informed, professional, courteous atmosphere with all communication offered to members, colleagues and third parties. Provide quarterly underwriting and appraisal review meetings. Qualifications: Experience Two years to three years of similar or related experience. Education (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program. Interpersonal Skills Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution, building relationships, and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication. Other Skills Ability to produce a high volume of work in a very fast paced environment. Excellent communication skills. Ability to analyze data in loan applications and make decisions using logical decision-making skills that weigh the outcomes of a decision. Strong analytical skills, using solid judgment and ingenuity in decisions. Must be good with detail, numbers and have good organizations and interpersonal skills. Continuous alertness, precision and concentration to ensure accuracy and thoroughness of work Physical Requirements Talking - Effective verbal communication to convey and acknowledge receiving detailed or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly. Average Hearing - Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information to communicate effectively. Finger Dexterity - Using primarily just fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together to use office equipment such as phones, computers, scanners, and other office machinery. Repetitive Motion - Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Average Visual Abilities - Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare and inspect documents, read email and computer screens, and operate office machinery. Physical Strength - Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 25lbs. of force occasionally (Almost all office jobs). Reaching and Stretching: Reaching and stretching, below the shoulders, to access files, checks, documents, or office equipment on and across shelves, counters, and desks.
