This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the coresponding Executive Director of School Operations, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount. All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, continuously demonstrating a strong understanding of the tasks and responsibilities their roles require. Moreover, they must embody the core belief that every action we take is driven by a commitment to the best interests of our students. JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition Title: Principal - High School Salary Schedule: State Plus Local Supplement Department: School Leadership Job Code: 761051 Reports To: Exec. Dir. of Secondary School Ops. Work Schedule: 240 days/8 hr. Grade/Level: L/S240 FLSA: Exempt Primary Function: Receive general direction from the Superintendent and exercise direct supervision over assigned staff. Plan, direct and review the activities of the school including program supervision and development. Interpret and explain district policies and procedures relative to school operations and instruction. Working Conditions:Physical Demands: Office environment Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard Constant interruptions Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone Seeing to read a variety of materials Sitting for extended periods of time Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to file materials Qualifications: Must hold or be eligible for Georgia Level 6 Certificate in Educational Leadership (Tier II) Must have a strong educational background with a minimum of three (3) years successful administrative experience Minimum of one (1) year successful experience as assistant principal required Must be able to follow directives and assist in the direction of focus of the total program Must have good organizational skills and the ability to supervise a large staff The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.Essential Functions: Provide leadership and accountability in working with all school stakeholders including teachers, parents, support personnel, students, and community members to achieve standards and develop and improve the instructional programs of the school Direct and supervise the ongoing development of the School Improvement Plan (SIP), and coordinate communication of the SIP with the School Advisory Council Supervise the work of staff members in the school, and confer with them to improve the quality of teaching/learning Encourage the acceptance of individual responsibility and the development of initiative on the part of all staff Preside at meetings of the school staff, and enlist the cooperation of all staff members in the solution to school-related problems Participate in the appointment, re-appointment, promotion, dismissal, and performance evaluation of all school staff Direct and supervise the labor of all employees in the school, and be responsible for the efficiency of employees Administer regulations affecting scholarship and discipline, and counsel with students as needed Maintain desirable relationships with school patrons, and counsel with them concerning student progress and achievement Certify the compliance of individual students with the requirements for promotion or graduation, based on records and reports from teachers Serves as the medium of communication for all official business of the school with Central Office staff, students, and the public Be responsible for the proper use and preservation of buildings, grounds, furnishings, equipment, and facilities of the school Submit to Central Office Administration reports covering all details of the work of the school Ensure that grade report cards are properly completed and issued at designated times Ensure that all interschool contests and all other school-sponsored activities are under the direct and complete control of the school administration and that finances related to such school activities are handled the same as other school funds Ensure that all school purchases are made through authorized individual school purchase orders and comply with statutory requirements as well as Board Policies Designate a staff member to oversee the school in case of illness or absence of the principal Ensure that receipts are issued for all funds received regardless of source Submit required and requested financial reports to appropriate staff; submit all accounting books for audit as requested Provides for a safe, orderly, secure campus and school environment Serves as spokesperson for the school to the community and within the district Involves the community in school programs, activities, and in establishing district and school goals Attends meetings at district office with district office personnel, parents, counselors, and school administration staff Conducts classroom observations on a regular basis to observe student behavior and teaching strategies Participate in training programs to increase skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities Review current developments, literature and technical source information related to job responsibilities Ensure adherence to appropriate safety procedures Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies Perform other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee Applicants will be selected for interview.
