Salary: $104.04 - $154.68 Depending on experience Schedule: TBD JOB PURPOSE: The Senior Hospitalist Psychiatrist oversees Psychiatry functions in partnership with inpatient psychiatrists, clinical leadership, and El Rio Psychiatry Residency program providing and improving care for hospitalized patients cared for by El Rio psychiatrists. The Senior Hospital Psychiatrist will participate in coverage of all our hospital-based psychiatric services, to ensure optimal functionality and availability. They will serve as core faculty for the Psychiatry residency, engaging in clinical teaching, didactic teaching, scholarly activities, and other activities of the residency that may include coverage of child and adolescent psychiatric services should the need arise. The Senior Hospital Psychiatrist will provide quality, comprehensive behavioral health care to a variety of patients, in an efficient and cost-effective manner, for psychiatric treatment in partnership with community hospitals. They will provide care to new and established patients in accordance with the licensure and the highest standards of quality and integrity and deliver high-quality care for the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral health and the physical and emotional support of patients and families. The completion of these duties, tasks, or assignments requires a high level of independent judgment and decision-making in the execution of the scope or authority and responsibility for the position. The Senior Hospital Psychiatrist must be able to successfully perform all essential functions, duties, tasks, assignments, and responsibilities assigned within the El Rio Health organization at a location assigned by management. The incumbent in this position works with general direction and review and has discretion and independent judgment authority with respect to matters of significance for the assigned area. The primary goal of the El Rio Health Senior Hospitalist Psychiatrist is to support El Rio's Mission of providing comprehensive, quality health care that is affordable and accessible to all who may have healthcare needs, by successfully performing the primary essential functions. The following functions and responsibilities will contribute to El Rio Health to achieve its KEY RESULTS:World Class Experience for staff and patients Healthier patients and employees Positive Financial Result Essential Job Functions: Oversees inpatient psychiatrist coordination and administrative functions in partnership with psychiatrists providing and improving care for hospitalized patients being cared for by El Rio Health Psychiatrists. Manages day-to-day care and providing prompt and complete attention to all patient care needs including diagnosis, treatment, and the performance of medical procedures (within scope of practice) Works with the current El Rio Medical Director of Hospital Based Psychiatry and Behavioral Health leadership at our partner community hospitals to ensue highest quality of care and efficacy of workflows. Works with psychiatric assessment team, hospital liaison, and inpatient psychiatry team to improve follow up and reduce readmission rates. Communicates regularly with the inpatient psychiatrists about quality performance as well as workflow/policy changes. Acts as "point person" for day to day clinical issues related to inpatient psychiatric services at El Rio related issues, fielding queries with assistance their supervisor Mediates potential conflicts with El Rio Health physicians. Onboards new hires for the hospital. Updates and improves the onboarding process. Provides tours/informational sessions to new applicants. Sets an example for performance on hospital quality measures. Maintains active staff status and appropriate credentialing/privileging per hospital staff bylaws as appropriate Ensures compliance with medical staff bylaws, rules, policies and procedures and regulations on their assigned unit. Performs patient histories and physicals, risk factor assessment, ordering of therapeutic and diagnostic tests. Evaluates hospitalized patients, performing examinations, and establishing preventive health practices. Analyzes reports test results medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and proposes treatment options. Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented emotional and medical conditions. Maintains Medical Records with relevant patient data and case presentations for all services rendered, tests ordered, prescriptions, advice, and communications, in a manner consistent with regulatory agencies, diagnostic, and procedural coding documentation requirements, and the standards of good medical care. Records complete, timely and accurate medical records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Prepares clinical reports and correspondence concerning patients under his/her care to physicians, hospitals, and other individuals and facilities. Works collaboratively with medical director and team for appropriate consults. Provides care that is patient and family centered, compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of emotional and physical health, prevention of illness and treatment of disease through lifespan. Formulates, executes, and reviews healthcare education delivered to patients and families for diseases prevention. Ensures smooth communication and coordination with other health professionals for effectively delivering outpatient or hospital clinical service to patients. Evaluates patients, performing examinations, and establishing preventive health practices. Cultivates a climate of trust and compassion for patients. Serves as an advocate for patients and families in navigating the healthcare system. Attends to patient emergencies in the clinic and hospital environment as part of an interdisciplinary team provides care to El Rio Health outpatient and/or inpatient. Works independently with other members of the medical team including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, residents or students as assigned. Oversees office flow and makes recommendations for efficiency. Works diligently to achieve a productivity standard. Remains in compliance with the terms of the contract as well as all clinical and employment-related policies and procedures, terms, and conditions. Adheres to El Rio organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values policies, and standards. Accepts in-patient and outpatient calls on-call rotations and schedules as assigned and in conjunction with Provider Staff guidelines. Supervises and works with nurse practitioners, physician assistants, residents or students as assigned. Participates in ongoing Continuing Medical Education Programs. May take overnight or weekend phone calls. Willingness to see a large proportion of adult and geriatric in addition to child and adolescent patients when needed. Comfort in caring for patients with substance use disorders, severe mental illness, and medical comorbidities using evidence based modalities. Attends medical and committee meetings as assigned. Adheres to or exceeds productivity goals as assigned by administration and Medical Leadership. Delivers healthcare in a professional manner that strives to meet or exceed those criteria set forth by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and The Joint Commission (TJC), as well as the internal standards that seek continuous quality improvements. Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with all federal and state Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). Adheres to policies and procedures, and corporate compliance with laws, regulations, standards, or requirements for Federal, State, and local sources for El Rio Health and partnering community hospitals. Maintains good standing with the Federal and State agencies avoiding any action that may lead to sanctioning, exclusion, or other ineligible status, and will notify employer immediately of any action, notice, or event that could lead to exclusion or the allegation of malpractice. Maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in compliance with all Policies and Procedures including but not limited to work areas, workstations, examination rooms, hand washing, infection prevention and control etc. for this position. Demonstrates an understanding of and proficiency with the application of all compliance and reporting requirements respective to Joint Commission Certification (JCC) standards, confidentiality, values, and policies. Adheres to El Rio Health organizational and department specific policies, procedures, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental and infection control standards. Promptly reports any Safety concerns or incidents through the appropriate channels. Complies with terms of all payor contracts and any other legal requirements concerning discrimination, access to care and the standard of care. Other Duties and Responsibilities: In support of the Mission and Vision of El Rio Health, will at all times represent themselves as a professional role model of El Rio Health serving as a positive informational source for members of the community. Supports El Rio by participating in community events which promote good health, and which contribute to a broader awareness and understanding of El Rio Health and the many services provided to the community. Participates in all appropriate health care activities related to El Rio Health on a local, state, and national level to maintain and enhance El Rio's image with health agencies, professional associations, and the general public. Ensures and supports the cost-effective use of materials, supplies, and equipment by limiting waste of all organizational supplies and resources. Maintains their skills proficiency with El Rio operating systems and/or software programs by adapting to changing requirements and successfully learning and demonstrating new skills in response to software, system, and program improvements or upgrades. Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by establishing and enforcing organization standards and by adhering to legal regulations. Expand knowledge and best practices in medicine by attending conferences and seminars. Employees must maintain their skills proficiency with El Rio operating systems and/or software programs by adapting to changing requirements and successfully learning and demonstrating new skills in response to software, system, and program improvements or upgrades. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education and Experience: Doctor of Medicine degree or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited medical educational institution. Successful completion of an accredited residency program. Three (3) years of inpatient or CL psychiatry experience. Board Certification in General and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. If applicable, equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, and must be directly related to the functions and responsibilities of the job. Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations: Board Eligible or Board Certified in their clinical specialty. Must have and maintain and active and unencumbered Arizona state license as a Physician including prescriptive authority from the Board of Medical Examiners, State of Arizona. Must obtain and maintain current Federal Drug Enforcement Agency License (DEA) for prescribing controlled substances. Must obtain and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers. Level I fingerprint clearance card: current valid and in good standing or have applied for it within seven working days after beginning employment. Remain current will all licensure requirements, compliance training, Code of Conduct and other regulations as mandated by state and federal laws. Employees in this position are required to have reliable transportation that can meet any operational reassignments of the organization during the workday. If an employee is driving during work hours, the employee is required to possess a valid driver's license and must comply with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements. Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities: Experience providing psychiatric care and diagnostic services in a clinical setting. Experience prescribing appropriate medications, treatments, and health regimens to treat patient health issues. Experience collaborating with specialists to explore patient health conditions and diagnose health issues. Bilingual (English/Spanish) with the ability to speak, read and write in both languages.
