Title: AECC Network Engineer - Systems Engineer - Senior Location: Radford, VA or Fort Belvoir Citizenship: US Salary range : $130-$132k/ year Description of Project and Tasks: Position Overview: This position is for a Network Engineer supporting the Army Edge Computing Capability (AECC) project that ALTESS is fielding for the US Army. The AECC solution is a hyperconverged, multitenant private cloud hosting environment for hosting Army enterprise and tactical applications. AECC is currently utilizing VMware products (ESXi, vSAN, NSX, vCloud Foundations, ARIA Automation) to implement a Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) across multiple global sites. ALTESS provides value-added common and managed services that hosted Army applications will require. ALTESS is a managed service provider (MSP) and hosting services provider for Army applications. ALTESS is a Product Director office under Program Executive Office Enterprise (PEO Enterprise). Position Duties: • Work with Government engineers to develop and maintain the AECC architecture. • Develop, deploy, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for deployment and sustainment of the network architecture in the AECC. • s applications are hosted on the AECC solution, utilize IaC for the provisioning of the network foundation for customer enclaves. • Provide daily administration of the network to include patching and upgrading of all network components. • Monitor health and utilization of the network resources and notify the AECC lead when critical issues arise, and additional resources will be required. • Harden the network per commercial best practices and the required government cybersecurity controls. • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis of any hosting platform network issues. • Develop and maintain system, infrastructure, and process documentation (system diagrams, network topology, software configurations, device configurations, standard operating procedures). • Provide on-call support for triage and resolution of after-hours production incidents. • Make recommendations for improvements to security, scalability, manageability, and performance across the AECC network enclaves. Required Skills: • Senior level network engineer experience with at least five years of experience in implementing IT infrastructure systems, specifically focusing on networking infrastructure in enterprise environments. • Demonstrated expertise in VMware NSX, including design, deployment, and management. • Proficiency in network engineering, including LAN/WAN, routing, switching, and network security. • Proficiency with core AECC networking components: NSX, Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco Routers, Cisco Nexus & Catalyst switches • Familiarity with the VMware Suite of products: NSX, VSAN, vSphere, ESXi, ARIA, and other VMware tools. • bility to troubleshoot complex issues related to VMware infrastructure and network configurations. • Experience with network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) and scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, etc.). • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and MPLS. • Strong automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) skills. • Strong verbal and written communication skills. • Strong troubleshooting skills across the entire technology stack - network, storage, server, and applications. Desired Skills: • Working knowledge of DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and the Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) process. • Hands-on experience with container platforms and container orchestration. • Understanding of Kubernetes networking (CNI) and storage (CSI) principles. • Experience with managing Kubernetes applications using Helm charts and maintaining container images in a registry. • Experience with GitOps principles and tools (e.g., Argo CD, Flux). Required Certifications: • Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570.01-M IA Tech Level II certification. Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in an IT-related field. Clearance Required: • DoD Secret
