Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial Date Posted: 1/27/2026 Location: MAWSECO Education Center Meeker & Wright Special Education Cooperative #0938Date Posted: January 27, 2026 Position Title: Building and Grounds Technician Assignment Location: MAWSECO Ed Center, Howard Lake Hours per Day: 7.5 hours per day (plus a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch) Schedule: 200-day contract per school calendar; 10:30 AM - 6:30 PM Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible Salary: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour Benefits: Benefits will align with MSEA benefit contributions. POSITION OVERVIEW The primary roles of the Building and Grounds Technician is to ensure the cleanliness, safety and compliance, and functionality of our school buildings. The role combines routine custodial duties with general maintenance responsibilities, including performing small to medium-sized repairs, support with snow removal and lawncare maintenance, and coordinating any necessary building inspections or larger building projects, while communicating with any contractors and/or building owners. The Building and Grounds Technician is responsible for maintaining a professional level of cleanliness and safety within our educational facilities. This role involves sanitizing learning spaces, performing routine facility maintenance, and assisting with day-to-day operations. Because we serve students with diverse and unique needs, the Building and Grounds Technician is an essential partner in creating a therapeutic, welcoming, and high-functioning environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas daily. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and perform floor care (stripping/waxing/buffing). Empty waste and recycling and ensure proper disposal of waste from building grounds. Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper. Respond promptly to spills and other custodial emergencies. Support lawncare and snow removal in coordination with contracted services. Ensure proper care, inventory, and use of cleaning products and equipment. Perform light repairs and routine preventive maintenance. Assist in the handling, serving, and clean up of food items during meal times. In collaboration with building owners, perform general repairs such as minor plumbing and electrical fixes, replacing light fixtures or other broken fixtures and ceiling tiles, painting, drywall repair and simple carpentry tasks. Conduct routine inspections of school facilities to identify maintenance needs, including required tests. Maintain and service tools, custodial equipment, and basic building systems. Arrange and oversee periodic inspections (e.g., fire safety, HVAC, electrical systems). Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs or large-scale maintenance projects. Track and report maintenance needs and completed work to the Facilities Manager or designated supervisor. Assist in setup and teardown for school events, meetings, or emergency situations. Maintain records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance schedules. Attend trainings/workshops/webinars as required. QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience: No prior experience is required, though knowledge of modern cleaning methods and equipment is preferred. Licensure: Requires a valid MN driver's license. Additional Requirement: May be required after hire to obtain a Special Class Boiler License. Abilities: Must be able to follow safety procedures, lift up to 25 lbs. frequently, and maintain prompt and regular attendance.
