No Job Type Full-Time Working HoursPosition Summary Roosevelt University is looking for a full-time engineer. The Engineer is responsible for operating, and maintaining all machinery and equipment as assigned per the Engineer's duties. This position is located on the Chicago campus and reports to the Chief and/or Assistant Chief Engineer. This is an afternoon shift, 3PM-11PM, with off days on Sunday and Monday. Demonstrated ability to read and work off blue prints and schematics. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and detailed equipment maintenance and safety records. Ability to perform basic trouble shooting of electrical control systems and proper use of a digital multi-meter Ability to perform basic refrigeration troubleshooting skills, Previous experience with PC based building automation systems (i.e. Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Apogee, and Phillips Teletrol). Must display a knowledge of basic sequence of operations of systems. The qualified candidate must be a current member, in good standing with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399. Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail. Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt's core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors. A positive and professional demeanor is a must. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Years of Experience Required 5 Required Education High School/GED Certification/Licensure Required Current City of Chicago License for Stationary Engineer Universal CFC License Generator License (preferred) Minimum Qualifications Please refer to knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Preferred Qualifications Earned Associates Degree is a plus. Previous experience working with an automated work order system Equipment Operated Basic office equipment (desktop computer, copier/ multi-function device, fax and telephone). See also job duties Working Conditions This position requires the physical ability to perform heavy lifting, opening and closing of large valves under air or water pressure, and the ability to work from ladders and scaffold under approved OSHA guidelines. Priority Application InstructionsDepartmental Contact Information Essential Job Functions Duty and ResponsibilityEquipment maintenance and supplies: Maintains and monitors condition and ensures functioning boilers, electricity and electrical distribution systems, plumbing and piping systems, internal combustion engines, pumps, air compressors, generators, ice machines, air-conditioning units, chillers (centrifugal and screw type), cooling towers, air handling units, variable frequency drives, building automation systems (pneumatic and direct digital control), laboratory hoods, chemical testing of water systems, kitchen cooking equipment, garbage disposals, fire alarm monitoring systems, data centers, and fire suppression systems Ensure all machinery is in good working order Ensure the safe, economical operation of the plant Responsible to supply basic hand tools including, but not limited to: screw drivers standard and phillips multiple sizes, adjustable tongue and grove pliers multiple sizes, adjustable wrench multiple sizes, allen keys standard and metric, needle nose pliers, wire strippers, flashlight Percentage Of Time 70 Duty and ResponsibilityCommunication and Vendor Management: Carries out orders of the management in the operation of the building Corresponds with employees, vendors, students and the University community at-large on existing work orders Other duties as assigned Percentage Of Time 30
