Description: Job Summary: In the Emergency Department setting,provides consultation and assessment of patients psychiatric and chemical dependency issues. Arranges for inpatient or outpatient treatment as clinically indicated including patients who do not have Kaiser coverage. Works with EPRP/BHL and law enforcement to arrange for the direct admission of Kaiser patients to contract psychiatric hospitals. Responds to crisis calls and triages patients as is clinically indicated. Essential Responsibilities: Provide 7 day a week assessment of Emergency Department patients for psychiatric and chemical dependency issues. In Consultation with the Emergency Department physicians, assessment triage and dispositions are determined regarding voluntary/involuntary hospitalization, psychiatric diagnoses, and appropriate outpatient treatments. Secures appropriate inpatient psychiatric or chemical dependency beds and arranging for transfer. Arranging appropriate outpatient clinic follow up. Facilitate direct admissions from other community ERs once medically cleared. Facilitate direct admissions from the PERT/SDPD. Assist with crisis line calls for the SD MSA. Assists medical clinics with triage and consultation re behavioral health cases in the medical MOBs. Consults with on-call psychiatrist as appropriate regarding diagnosis and treatment plans. Provides assessment triage & crisis intervention to adults, adolescents and children. Provides appropriate and immediate intervention for members in crisis or in need of clinical services. Maintains thorough documentation within HealthConnect according to Emergency Psychiatry Services and incorporates collateral clinical information from, (with member permission) social agencies, schools, relatives, friends and obtains pertinent information. Provides clinical consultation in an integrated health care environment regarding family interactions, sociocultural determinants and community resources. Facilitates the transfer of and repatriates Kaiser members with psychiatric and/or substance abuse problems from settings outside our system. Diagnoses and provides triage to patients across the span of developmental stages. Complies with organizational, departmental, state/federal guidelines & all regulatory agency policies and procedures. Participates in QM & CQI activities and other developmental activities as assigned. As assigned, may be on standby over-night to the ED and also facilitates (usually per phone) the transfer of Kaiser members with psychiatric and/or substance abuse problems from settings outside our system such as non-contracted EDs back to a Kaiser contracted facility. Basic Qualifications: Experience Minimum two (2) years post Masters experience providing evaluation and crisis intervention. Education Masters degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or other field related to behavioral health required. License, Certification, Registration Licensed Clinical Social Worker (California) OR Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (California) OR Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (California) Additional Requirements: Knowledge of psychodynamics, psychopathology, DSM IV, psychotropic medication, and addiction medicine. Ability to define appropriate course of treatment and treatment modality. Ability to work independently as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team.
