Salary: $23.00 Hourly Location : TOWN BEACHES AND LAKE MOHEGAN, CT Job Type: SEASONALS Job Number: 26-0004 Department: PARKS & RECREATION Opening Date: 01/06/2026 Job Summary: This class is accountable for overseeing the daily operations of the gate attendants at the Town of Fairfield's beaches and waterfront facilities. This class will be responsible for managing gate attendants, ensuring smooth access control, enforcing security policies, handling visitor issues, and maintaining a safe environment at beach entry points. Supervision Received: Receives administrative direction from the Recreation/Aquatic Coordinator, Assistant Waterfront Director or his/her designee. Supervision Exercised: Will supervise or lead lower-level staff as assigned. Examples of Essential Duties: Oversees and manages the day-to-day gate operations across various beach locations. Ensures gate attendants follow security protocols, enforces beach rules, patrols premises, and responds to suspicious activity or breaches. Provides ongoing training for gate attendant staff in beach sticker validation, proper security measures, emergency response, and the use of specialized equipment. Implements and maintains effective security measures to protect Town assets and ensure the safety of personnel and beach visitors. Develops work schedules and deploys staff to cover all shifts effectively. Conducts regular evaluations and audits of staff performance. Monitors entry procedures and ensures accurate record-keeping for daily parking and attendance. Maintains accurate records of supplies, daily ticket reconciliation (tickets sold and total revenue), and submits the required operational and financial reports to management. Prevents unauthorized individuals from entering restricted areas. Provides directions and visitor assistance and addresses employee and patron complaints, concerns, or conflicts. Ensures compliance with all Town of Fairfield beach, parking, and facility regulations. Coordinates with Beach Captains, Recreation Supervisors, and the Aquatic/Waterfront management team on operational needs or incidents. Maintains an accurate daily logs, prepares reports on incidents, monitors inventory, and communicates with management. Acts as the primary point of contact for breaches or emergencies and serves as a liaison with law enforcement and other first responders when necessary. Performs all related tasks as required or as directed. This classification specification has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Must possess superior customer-service skills. Proven ability to remain professional, patient, and adaptable in varying conditions. Ability to make sound, quick decisions under pressure, especially during emergencies, high-volume or challenging situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, public officials, residents, members of the general public, vendors, other departments and agencies, supervisors, and coworkers. Ability to work harmoniously, cooperatively, and courteously with others at all times. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 18 years of age at time of employment. Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and evening shifts as scheduled. Schedule and Compensation: Gate Guard Supervisors work on a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays. Daily hours and locations may vary depending on beach operations and staffing needs. The season runs from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
