The ideal candidate will bring a deep and well-rounded background in database management, with a minimum of five years of combined experience in MS SQL Server, including at least five years of robust development experience and three or more years of proactive database administration (v2014+) is desirable. This individual is skilled across the full stack of database functions, from SSIS/SSRS development and performance tuning to maintaining strong security protocols and supporting smooth change management. In addition to technical expertise, the successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding communication and collaboration skills, working effectively within a team and across multiple City departments. They will be adept at managing and monitoring databases, ensuring system security, and integrating new technologies into existing systems. The ideal candidate thrives when leading critical City initiatives and managing a diverse portfolio of systems including the City's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), OpenGov permitting platform, Laserfiche Records Management System (RMS), and a new resident identity management solution. You can view our Technology Modernization Plan This role will play a key part in several major upcoming City projects, such as deploying a new Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system, integrating a new utility payment portal, developing and implementing the City's data governance strategy, and developing enhanced ERP reports and workflows. Strong project management fundamentals, a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset, and a commitment to continuous learning are essential to success. Knowledge of Microsoft platforms including Active Directory, Entra, SharePoint, and Teams is highly desirable. Experience with Microsoft Copilot or Power BI is also considered an asset. Maintains the City intranet for City employees; creates new web pages and expands functionality. Create and maintain geospatial databases; perform basic geo-processing and analytical tasks such as spatial queries and comparisons. Creates and maintains SQL Server Reporting Services reports for users. Performs database administration tasks for SQL Server databases; sets-up job; monitors re-indexing, backups, data import, and statistical reporting; provides user management and security. Maintains eCommerce website; prepares reports; provides user support for online transactions including utility payments; integrates eCommerce website with City website; secures certificate maintenance for City eCommerce applications. Coordinates with ERP vendor in resolving support cases addressing user problems. Coordinates with other information technology staff in resolving software application issues, server, and account configurations. Assists in developing training or conducts training in computer systems and software as needed. Researches new computer technologies for City application and recommends purchase of systems, hardware, software, and peripherals. Maintains a variety of records and prepares special reports; creates and updates written procedures and related documentation. Maintains current knowledge of information technology trends and innovations; attends and participates in job-related seminars and professional group meetings. Performs related duties as required. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINESAny combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Education/Training: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in systems or business analysis and design. Receiving a CalPERS benefit may affect your Social Security upon retirement. For further information contact a Social Security office or Medicare - Employees hired after April 1, 1986 are required to contribute 1.45% of earnings, with an equal amount paid by the City. Defined Contribution - The City contributes 7% of employee's gross salary to a 401a Plan. Deferred Compensation - Employees have the option to contribute to a 457 Plan up to the maximum allowed by law. Health Insurance - The City contributes $162 per month towards a selection of plans. Health insurance is effective the first of the month after date of hire. Flex Benefit/Cafeteria Plan - $3,175 monthly, which may be applied toward health insurance premiums. Unused money may be taken as cash, payable twice a month. Dental/Vision Insurance - City pays premium for employees and dependents. Dental/Vision insurance is effective the first of the month after date of hire. Life Insurance - City-paid term life insurance equal to the employee's annual salary, plus $5,000, rounded up to next $5,000 and dependent life insurance of $2,000 per dependent, is provided. Short/Long Term Disability - City pays premium for employees. Eligibility period: 0 days for injury/hospitalization or 7 days for an illness. Retirement Health Savings (RHS) Plan - Investment vehicle funded by employee contributions to pay for medical benefits upon retirement or separation from the City. Mandatory participation for all employees. Holidays - 11 days (88 hours) plus 3 floating holidays (24 hours) per year. Management Leave - Executive and mid-management exempt employees receive 40-88 hours per year. Vacation - Vacation is determined by number of years of service. (0-4 years = 80 hrs; 5-9 years = 120 hrs; 10-14 years = 160 hrs; 15+ years = 168-200 hrs). Employees are eligible to use vacation after 6 months of employment. Sick Leave - 96 hours per year. Comprehensive Annual Leave (CAL) - Sanitary District Only. Combined vacation, sick and floating holiday leaves.
