Water Taxi First Mate

The First Mate will assist the Captain in the safe and courteous operation of the Water Taxi. The First Mate will be responsible for keeping the boat in a clean and safe condition and will assist customers on and off the boat. Assist the Captain of the Water Taxi for the safe and courteous operation of the boat. Assist riders of the Water Taxi on and off the boat. Maintain the boat in a clean and organized manner as directed by the Captain. Help maintain the Port office, dock and surrounding area as directed by the Captain. Representing the Cleveland Metroparks in a polite and professional manner at all times. Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns. Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel. High School diploma or GED required. Basic boating experienced preferred. Must have a good driving record (less than six (6) active points on driving records at the application stage of the hiring process) and possess a valid Ohio driver's license. Basic safe boating knowledge preferred. Mandatory Drug testing enrollment required. Ability to remain calm and respond to an emergency situation and follow the direct orders from the Captain or other professional. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the general public. Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings. Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Candidates are subject to background checks.
