Employment Status: Full Time Pay Range: 18 Dept.: IronOaks at Sun LakesIronOaks at Sun Lakes Comprised of two interconnected neighborhoods - Ironwood and Oakwood - the community is among the most desirable retirement destinations in the Valley thanks to its combination of mature landscape, diverse amenities, and in-town location. The community features two fabulous clubhouses, 45 holes of golf, fitness, tennis & pickleball, softball, pools, trails, and much more. Where: Located in towns of Chandler & Sun Lakes, Arizona Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour Benefits: New hourly full-time team members working 30 hours or more per week, will be eligible for the Company medical, dental and life insurance plans the first of the month following 60 days of full-time employment. Full-Time team members are eligible to accrue Paid Time Off ("PTO") in accordance with the Company policy at a rate of 120 hours per year. Full-Time team members are eligible for 7 paid holidays annually. Part-Time team members are eligible to accrue Paid Sick Leave in accordance with state guidelines. All team members 21 years and older are eligible to participate in the J.F. Shea Co., Inc. 401(k) plan after completion of 30 days of service. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Assistant Mechanic is a member of the Golf Course Maintenance Team and helps maintain the department equipment, assuring team member safety and high quality. This position reports to the Equipment Manager and/or Lead Mechanic, and coaches Operators on safe and proper use of equipment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Understand the game of golf and the role of equipment maintenance in safety, quality, and aesthetics. Communicate with the Lead Mechanic, Equipment Manager, or the Assistant Superintendent on daily/weekly work assignments to ensure all needed equipment is available when needed; identify and correct performance problems; complete repairs and adjustments. Collaborate with the Equipment Manager and Lead Mechanic to create capital equipment budgets and execute daily, monthly, and annual budgets. Assist Lead Mechanic or Equipment Manager to ensure departmental compliance with OSHA regulations. Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment; ensure all equipment is being properly cleaned. Assist with the implementation of a thorough preventative maintenance program for all equipment; identify and correct performance problems; complete repairs/adjustments. Work in a safe manner and use all personal protective equipment (safety gear) assigned. Be aware of safety requirements and report unsafe conditions or accidents to supervisor. Help train staff members on safe and proper equipment operation; coach team members to be diligent with equipment care and operation; instill the importance of reporting all unsafe conditions. Assist the Lead Mechanic and Equipment Manager in reviewing operational challenges; recommend solutions. Assist with maintaining records of repairs, equipment and parts inventory, preventative maintenance, and fuel/lubricate usage. Assist with inventory and anticipate parts needed to maximize equipment operation and reduce downtime; assist Lead Mechanic or Equipment Manager in considering parts needed. Attend educational seminars to stay current with the leading technology and troubleshooting skills needed, as requested. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. Strong team-building skills including the ability to lead, cooperate, and motivate. Must be role model and able to live our BlueStar core values: Honesty and Integrity Respect for the Individual Teamwork Competitive Spirit MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS: High School diploma or equivalent preferred. One year experience as a mechanic, or related experience preferred. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of equipment repair and maintenance through references and work history. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus. Certificates, as required. Computer literate with proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, preferred. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret schematics, reports, plans, labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), technical manuals, and regulatory documents. Must possess basic computational ability. Excellent verbal communication skills. Excellent customer service skills in dealing with team members and the public. Must be able to lead by example by taking a proactive position to all issues concerning maintenance and the maintenance staff. Must demonstrate initiative-ability to think, work, solve problems, and make independent decisions, based on sound judgment. Must be able to consistently achieve high work standards; attention to detail, accuracy and meeting timeliness is a must. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where continuous improvement is expected. This position requires a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekend. Valid driver's license required. WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position works in an outdoor environment. There may be frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions. Outdoor environments may require variable terrain while carrying equipment and navigating typical golf course obstacles, including, but not limited to, water, plants, and the natural landscape. The employee may be exposed to hazards including, but not limited to, cuts, slipping, tripping, and falls. The employee is occasionally exposed to Arizona desert wildlife such as snakes, scorpions, spiders, bobcats, javelinas, etc. There may be occasional exposure to precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can vary depending on the equipment or machines used. Employees are required to wear all assigned personal protective equipment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position may be very active and may require standing and walking for the duration of a shift, sitting and driving, lifting, pushing, digging, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, using hands to fingers, touching and holding, and reaching with hands and arms; regularly required to speak and hear. The employee must be able to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
