Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Med Surg Discipline: RN Start Date: 12/29/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Registered Nurse – Med Surg Unit Name: 12 Tower Requirements: Must have an active TN RN License or Compact RN License in good standing Minimum 2 years of Med Surg experience Certifications Required: BLS, NIHSS Requested Skill Set / Must Have: Basic patient assessments and general care Maintenance of wounds, tracheostomy, ostomy, drains, chest tubes Care of patients with strokes, seizures, dialysis, or PCA pumps (only Heparin drip) Time management and efficiency in a fast-paced, short LOS unit Teamwork and strong collaboration Post-Op Procedures on Unit: Amputations Ostomy care Drains and chest tubes Oral surgeries Wound vac maintenance Unit Specifics: Number of Beds: 36 Number of Staff: 40 RNs (8 bedside RNs per shift) Staffing Structure: Day Shift: 8 RNs, 1 Charge RN, 1 Unit Secretary, 1 Manager, 1 CNC Night Shift: 8 RNs Patient Ratios: 1:4 / 1:5 Unit Staffing Description: Secretary every day, PRN techs available Equipment: Bariatric-fitted ADLs, wound vacs, drains, lifts, PD cyclers, Welch Allyn VS carts, Hoyer lift, Broda chairs, Alaris IV pumps Documentation System: Meditech Scheduling Requirements: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule Floating Policy: Will float over core staff Patient Experience Expectations: Bedside shift report, safety checks every 1–2 hours, focus on communication and responsiveness Unit Guidelines / Policies: Prompt attendance (clocking in/out on time, attending scheduled shifts) Open communication Professional appearance Attentive and responsive to patient needs Preferred / Nice to Have: Background in post-op surgical areas (vascular, bariatric, urology, general surgery, colorectal) Typical Procedures Performed on Unit: Maintenance of post-op surgical procedure sites Wound care: packing, dressing changes, wound vac maintenance Foley catheter care including continuous bladder irrigation Ostomy appliance changes and maintenance Nasogastric tube insertion and suction TPN administration Blood administration Central line care and dressing changes Bedside shift report Personality Fit: Outgoing, customer service oriented Strong teamwork; energetic and eager to enhance patient outcomes Supportive charges and leadership Dress Code (Required): Scrubs: Black, Gray, White, or Royal Blue Additional Information: Great teamwork and youthful group All candidates treated as core staff with full accountability and recognition Express Healthcare Staffing of Nashville Job ID #HT97.
