Department/Unit:Radiation OncologyWork Shift:Day (United States of America)Salary Range:$86,650.99 - $134,309.04The Sr. Radiation Therapist will administer ionizing radiation and radioactive substances to patients under the supervision of a Radiation Oncologist and in accordance with New York State Department of Health Code part 16. guidelines. In addition, the Sr. Radiation Therapist must operate high voltage machinery safely and accurately and communicate to pertinent personnel when malfunctions occur. The Sr. Radiation Therapist will always concern themselves with the welfare of the patient and will conduct themselves in a responsible and professional manner.Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist patient in all aspects related to simulation and treatment and is responsible for their safety. Administer the radiation treatment in a precise and accurate manner carefully reproducing the treatment daily, reporting any deviation from the planned care to the appropriate personnel. Operate high voltage machinery safely and accurately and to communicate to pertinent personnel when malfunctions occur. Accurately records/verifies doses in electronic medical record. Observes at all times, rules and regulations relative to radiation safety for patients, staff, students and other personnel. Participates in regular therapist and staff meetings. Acts as mentor/provides clinical guidance to Radiation Therapy students in Radiation Oncology Informs patient of simulation and treatment procedures and observes the patient’s condition throughout the course of treatment. Responsible for recording and reporting equipment faults to chief therapist and/or physicist. Accurately sets treatment doses and monitors the progress of treatment. Maintains adequate records/documentation as requested. Carries out regular quality assurance checks, as required daily, weekly and/or monthly. Assists the physician in any procedure related to simulation, planning or treatment as needed. Inspects ancillary equipment on a regular basis, reporting and removing any unsafe equipment from use. Rotates shifts or work assignments as requested by Lead Therapist or Department Manager. Follows guidelines set in AMC Human Resources Manual. Performs associated duties as requested by Lead Therapist or Department Manager. Maintains and develops interests in the field of Radiation Oncology. Maintains required Continuing Education credits in compliance with license registration requirements. Qualifications Completion of a training program in a Radiation Therapy Technology program in an AMA approved school - required 3+ years experience - required Utilizes addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as necessary during Simulation or Daily QA operations. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient as well as their medical and psycho/social status. Demonstrates the ability to use good judgment and organize work to achieve quality, efficient care, both independently and when interacting with others. Will concern themselves with the welfare of the patient at all times and will conduct themselves in a responsible and professional manner.
