OpenTelemetry Developer

Akkodis is seeking an OpenTelemetry Developer for a Contract role with a client in Austin, TX; Raleigh, NC; or Sunnyvale, CA (Hybrid, 3 days onsite). The ideal candidate will have deep OpenTelemetry engineering experience, strong Java expertise, and proven skill integrating telemetry into Datadog (mandatory) and Grafana observability platforms. Rate Range: $60/hour to $64/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors. OpenTelemetry Developer job responsibilities include: • Configure and implement OpenTelemetry processors, filters, sampling rules, and metadata enrichment. • Standardize, validate, and deploy approved exporters (OTLP/HTTP/GRPC) across collectors and gateways. • Ensure accurate, lossless telemetry delivery across distributed systems. • Build and maintain custom OpenTelemetry tracing wrappers, metrics helper libraries, and context-propagation utilities. • Contribute to internal SDKs and shared observability components. • Execute metadata enrichment standards at SDK, Collector, and Gateway layers. • Ensure uniform tagging, correlation, and alignment of telemetry signals across services. • Engineer reliable integrations with Datadog (required) and Grafana Cloud/Enterprise. • Perform troubleshooting of ingestion pipelines ensuring zeroloss data transfer. • Refactor legacy Java-based instrumentation into standardized OTel formats. • Modernize alerting signals and improve metric quality, sampling strategy, and cardinality. Desired Qualifications: • 8-10 years of engineering experience with strong Java expertise (required). • Deep understanding of the OpenTelemetry ecosystem-Collectoṛs, SDKs, exporters, propagators. • Mandatory: Hands-on Datadog OpenTelemetry development experience. • Proven experience integrating telemetry with Grafana and Datadog. • Experience building observability pipelines across microservices and distributed systems.
