The City of Goodyear is seeking highly motivated individuals to work as lifeguards at the Goodyear Aquatic Center and Loma Linda Pool. This is a part-time position with up to 40 hours per week during the months of May - August and up to 20 hours per week during the months of September - April. Their primary responsibilities include ensuring the safety of all patrons, enforcing facility rules, providing first aid, responding to emergencies, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. Lifeguards are expected to deliver exceptional customer service, demonstrate a positive attitude, and meet the needs of patrons. Additionally, they assist in mentoring and training volunteer Junior Lifeguards. To prioritize patron safety and ensure staff are prepared to respond effectively during emergencies, all aquatics staff are required to attend ongoing in-service trainings. Requirements All applicants must: Attend the pre-class orientation and swim test on Thursday, February 26th from 5:00 - 8:00pm. Be at least 15 years old at the start of the lifeguard certification class (classes held throughout March 2026). Complete online (hybrid) portion of StarGuard class prior to class start. Obtain valid StarGuard Elite lifeguard and CPR certification. Swim 50 yards continuous with head up. Swim 50 yards continuous with a rescue tube across the chest. Tread water for 1 minute without use of hands. Retrieve a 10 lb. brick at a depth of 12 feet. Attend the mandatory new employee orientation April 15th & 16th from 4:00 - 7:00pm (at Goodyear Recreation Center). Examination Process Applicants are required to attend pre-class orientation Thursday, February 26th where they will complete the swim tests (listed above). Applicants must be registered for one of the lifeguard certification courses offered below (all classes held at Goodyear Aquatic Center): Class OfferingsDays and Times March 5th - March 8th (4:00pm-8:00pm, Thursday and Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, Saturday and Sunday) March 9th - March 12th (8:00am-3:00pm Monday-Thursday) March 16th - March 19th (8:00am-3:00pm Monday-Thursday) March 20th - March 23rd (4:00pm-8:00pm, Friday and Monday, 8:00am-5:00pm, Saturday and Sunday) Registration opens January 9th at 8:00am.
