Vacancy Information: There is one (1) current full-time (FSLA Non-exempt) vacancy, with a 4/10 schedule: Monday to Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm ( a 30-minute unpaid lunch ). Work hours and/or work schedule may be changed based on the needs of the City. Job Summary: Under the direction of Construction Inspection Supervisor, performs general inspection work involving Right-of-Way construction and improvement projects to assure conformity with regulations and City standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES (The functions are representative and may not be present in all positions in the class. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind related duties and work assignments.) Inspects construction of streets, curbs, gutters, storm drains, sewers, sidewalks, water lines, alleys and related Right-of-Way infrastructure as assigned. Inspects construction work under various permits. Ensures that construction projects, including materials and workmanship, conform to approved project plans and specifications. Ensures that the contractor's operations do not endanger public safety. Writes inspection reports. Reports on the quality of construction. Assembles a variety of information for the preparation of construction reports. Participates in Right-of-Way inspections associated with private construction to assure conformity with regulations and City standards. Acts as a liaison between the City, contractors and utility companies. Performs related duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS A typical way to obtain the requisite qualifications to perform the duties of this class is as follows: Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities are qualifying. A typical example would be completion of two years of community college level or technical school courses in construction technology, construction inspection, or a related field; and three years of full-time field experience performing public works construction inspection field work. License or Certificate: Valid California driver's license. Knowledge of: Basic construction methods, procedures, and materials. Principles of basic math. Basic methods and practices of public works inspection. Skill and Ability to: Inspect construction projects for compliance with plans, specifications, codes and regulations. Read, interpret and apply codes and regulations. Test construction materials for quality control. Read and interpret plans and specifications. Perform required construction computations. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Maintain records and prepare reports. Observe legal and defensive driving practices. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
