Telecommunications Field Technician

Telecommunications Field Technician Description: Migrate approximately 500 Centrex analog phone lines in 190 locations to another solution, like wireless. There are wireless solutions available and part of the job would be coordinating with a vendor to migrate the lines. Discovery - Determine Call Purpose (voice, fax, alarm, elevator, modem, credit card, paging systems). Site visit required Test each line for dial tone and trace wiring to connected devices Identify call purpose of each line (voice, fax, alarm, elevator, modem, credit) Identify shared lines used by multiple devices. (i.e.: FAX / alarm) Identify bad pairs Verify power availability for cellular devices and audiocodes Identify placement of new equipment including battery backup. Label demarc extensions Identify additional cabling work required Survey wireless signal strength Determine if there is a county network presence. Determine initial migration eligibility status per line Document and relay information Responsibilities: Conducts site visits with staff and vendors to determine cabling paths, communication closets and voice and data locations. Responsible for completing all requests involving moves and service and equipment changes Works with staff, vendors and telephone companies to complete all voice and data cross connects. Recommends materials for use on all projects, reviews project cabling quotes and materials lists for accuracy. Trace physical phone connections (analog, digital, and VoIP) connections to to demarc location and endpoints. Determine which Centrex (POTS) lines are active and what is using them. Coordinate with vendors to replace Centrex lines with other solutions.
