Under general direction, this individual will provide comprehensive psychiatric care and treatment in an outpatient, community-based setting. Work hours will occur between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire. About this position type: This is a 0.7 FTE (28 hours/week), benefit earning position. This position is internally classified as a Psychiatrist. Click to view the job classification specification. In this position, you will: Conduct psychiatric diagnostic assessments. Evaluate need for medications and prescribes as indicated. Evaluate the need for therapeutic treatment and completes referrals as necessary. Assess patients' competence and make such determinations when appropriate. Engage in bi-monthly consultation with other psychiatry staff to determine need and appropriateness of psychotropic medication and psychiatric assessments. Participate in treatment planning with clinical staff as indicated. Serve as resource person in psychiatric specialty. Provide consultation to staff. Assist in monitoring quality of care provided. Document and maintain records and reports. Assist in program planning and coordination of services. Need to have: Graduated from an accredited school of medicine with an M.D. degree; a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Completion of an approved internship and formal residency. Possession of a valid license to practice medicine issued by the State of Minnesota and eligibility for board certification in psychiatry. Nice to have: Experience: Using the EPIC electronic health records system. Working in a hospital, clinic, community, or school system. With crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. With being trauma-informed and understanding the impact of trauma on individuals and the importance of creating safe and supportive environments. Knowledge of resources available through Hennepin County and the community. Ability to: Work with patients of varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds including patients who may require the use of an interpreter. Establish effective professional relationships with patients and their families. Gather and interpret pertinent psychosocial and psychological data in cases characterized by complex problems and the ability to use this data to inform diagnostic considerations and develop effective clinical interventions. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other professionals, and the public. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
