Description Works under the direction of the Economic Development Director. This position is responsible for implementing strategies to promote tourism, support and retain existing businesses, and foster entrepreneurship. This position will also be responsible for marketing and tourism campaigns highlighting County events, businesses, and attractions. This role involves direct outreach to business and tourism stakeholders and analyzing data to support business growth and visitor engagement. Essential FunctionsManage tourism and business marketing efforts including updating departmental websites, social media channels, hard-copy materials, and media outlets. Assist the Director with the County's tourism initiatives, including destination development, visitor experience enhancement, and promotion of heritage, agritourism, outdoor recreation, arts, and cultural assets. Develop and manage tourism and marketing campaigns that highlight County events, attractions, dining, lodging, and unique local experiences. Support and conduct Business Retention and Expansion visits. Includes following up on business challenges and seeking guidance from the Director as needed. Assist businesses with identifying and pursuing business assistance programs, when applicable. Manage small business and entrepreneurship development programs through partnerships with Goochland Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Development Center, Virginia Tourism Corporation, and other partner organizations. Track, analyze and report findings though business visitation and tourism outreach to the Director and assist in addressing issues and concerns of existing companies. Makes presentations to individual businesses, groups and associations on available services and assistance programs. Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of programs and resources available to businesses. Update and maintain the department's CRM database of existing Goochland County businesses. Coordinate business networking/industry roundtable events. Leads Business Appreciation Month Activities and assists with other economic development and tourism campaigns. Collects and analyzes economic data to help maintain accurate and current demographic, tourism and business information. Assist in curating and publishing content for Goochland Economic Development and Tourism Newsletter. Assist in tracking real estate changes in Costar and update IVS system. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic knowledge of economic development processes and practices in the areas of marketing, tourism, business retention, workforce development or local government experience working in Economic or Community Development. Marketing - General knowledge of marketing and marketing material development to include visual aids, brochures, reports and multi-media presentations. Tourism - Knowledge of tourism development principles, destination marketing, and visitor experience enhancement within a rural or small-community setting. Information Technology - Knowledge of office equipment and personal computers to include word processing and a variety of presentation media. Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing with diverse stakeholders including business owners, tourism partners, and the public. Skill in providing customer service. Ability to work independently. Ability to think creatively and innovatively. Ability to manage time effectively to achieve specific project objectives in a deadline-driven environment. Ability to manage multiple projects in various stages. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other personnel and the public. Education, Experience and TrainingBachelor's Degree in Economics, Marketing, Urban Planning, Business Administration, or related field; Three (3) years of related experience in marketing, economic development, building development process, real estate, and/or community planning; Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and Valid State of Virginia Driver's License with a driving record that meets HR Policy requirements. Criminal background check and drug screen required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work is light work, which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Tasks may require the ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods of time. Additionally, the following physical abilities may be required: bending, reaching, handling, and grasping. WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed in a relatively safe, and secure work environment.
