Must possess interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress. Must possess analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, and procedures and cross-sectional anatomy. Description: Under general supervision and following established procedures, operates CT equipment to acquire images for use by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. Staff will be required to float among radiology clinics and divisions as needed. Operates CT equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information according to departmental protocols. Ensures the patient is properly prepared, positioned, immobilized, and uses protective shield as needed. Selects proper imaging factors and images the designated portions of the body. Explains exams to patients, taking into consideration their physical and emotional needs. Maintains ethical standards including patient confidentiality and professional conduct. Delivers patient care under the scope of license and training. Maintains effective working relationships and communication with departmental and other personnel. Calibrates and verifies the operation of all equipment to be used during the workday. Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and repairs needed. Executes paperwork and Radiology Information System functions necessary for each patient exam, including scheduling and completing exams and transferring images to PACS. Performs venipuncture for contrast administration under the direction of a radiologist, following all policies and procedures. Attends staff meetings and in-services and maintains appropriate continuing education units in accordance with licensure requirements. May oversee and instruct various personnel and technology students within the department. Prepares the equipment room and supplies necessary for each patient and daily use. Participates in research programs and quality assurance and quality improvement projects. Assumes responsibilities for on-call coverage and remains flexible in all shift coverage situations as necessary. Rotates within departments and clinics as required and cooperates with all personnel to promote harmony within the department. Transports and transfers patients using established procedures according to departmental guidelines. Uses independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative under pressure in various situations when performing patient exams. Performs all other duties as directed. Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology is required. Experience of 2-3 years as a CT technologist is preferred with at least one year in cross-sectional anatomy courses is beneficial.
